Bainimarama abuses Winston for political gain

Fiji continues to recover post Cyclone Winston with donations pouring internationally as well as within Fiji.

Not only have Fiji's neighbours like New Zealand and Australia provided major assistance in the rebuild but ordinary former Fiji nationals living overseas have taken it upon themselves to raise money or collect clothes etc for the victims of the cyclone.

This cyclone has reminded us that Fijians/Indo Fijians may appear divided politically, but are united at heart, especially when it comes helping each other during difficult times. And this generous spirit of us Fijians/Indo Fijians, can never be taken away, even by corrupt politicians.

It's interesting to see what is happening politically too during a disaster. There are some genuine parties like the three NFP MPs who have contributed $35,000 towards relief and rehabilitation of Fiji. SODELPA on the other hand has called for all parliamentarians to contribute 10% of their salaries.

In contrast, no word on sacrificing their salaries from two of Fiji's highest paid people, Frank Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum. Instead Bainimarama has set up a 'PM's disaster relief fund' for people to contribute to.

Interesting too is all the praises for Bainimarama during this recovery. Photos of him hugging children, and women crying have been popular with comments like 'he is the best PM in the world', 'there has never been a PM like him', 'he is so down to earth unlike other PMs' and so on.

Cyclone Winston was devastating for Fiji but a golden egg for PR company Qorvis to promote Frank Bainimarama as a messiah.

This is similar to what happened in New Orleans. A disaster becomes the best promotion for any Prime Minister. In Australia, former PM Tony Abbott received praise and accolades for how he dealt with the terrorism threats; in the US Barrack Obama's response to drive by shootings and a call for guns to be banned. There are many more examples.

It is important to not confuse genuine behaviour with political mileage.

While Fiji recovers and the focus is on helping the victims of the cyclone, Bainimarama has also chosen to appoint three of his military men to top positions.

  • Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto as the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces;

  • Brigadier General Sitiveni Tukaituraga Qiliho as the Commissioner of Police

  • Commander Francis Bulewa Kean as the Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service.

Now why would he make such important appointments at a time when the country is still crippled? Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa has labelled it 'jobs for the boys' and we agree.

All of them are abusers of human rights. Francis Kean, Bainimarama's brother in law is a murderer who never did his time.

So before you go praising Frank Bainimarama and his merry men for the efforts in the recovery of Fiji, think carefully about what is really going on and how Fiji is faring in the world today.

You have to be joking if you believe the Church is an institution for shaping the populous into respectful citizens.

How can anyone look up to or respect an institution that has now become just another commercial business. The Church now has so little respect for individuals that it has become despised by so many. The reason the buildings are becoming emptier is that people are fed up being controlled by these religious dictators.

There is no longer anything spiritual with so much religion, today it's make as much noise as you can, put on a show to boost your ego and be noticed.

The Church has not been made powerless, it's just made itself unpopular due to its selfish behaviour.

@Anonymous 9:52 PM

So you reckon an institution that breeds rapists and sex offenders within its leadership can teach respect and caring?

Anonymous said...

@9.52PM...another dickhead who tries to link the poor behaviour of the church with others. Empty churches have come about becos of the exploitative stance they take. People can only give so much. And the predatory behaviour of many pastors on their congregation. You have so many pastors committing sexual offences. Ditto for the chiefs. But thats too hard for dickheads like you to see. Another one who needs to go off to reform school. Don't forget to bring colour coded underwear.

You say..."Rape of such propensity is just one of the many evils of human behavior ." Exactly my point dickhead, nothing to do with politics.

When values are no more at home we got this.
The convicts, their respective parents/guardians are to be blamed for the rape and murder of the little girl. And her parents? Where were they? It's so sad that it happened close to a Christian retreat camp which is already used to tarnish a bad picture of the church.
Loloma Beach is a recreational area from my understanding and with history of theft, rape and murder in the country some were committed in the same place or close to its vicinity. Have the authorities put surveillance or post police patrols in this area? Tourists and public in general do flock to Loloma, Deuba and beaches along the Queens corridor which must be protected by authorities at all costs. Have they done that? If not then yea part of the blame point squarely at our current leadership.

What are we waiting for, people!!!!!!
Stand up for justice@ We need to get together and organize a public rally and march the streets of Suva to government house! This is of national importance to women, men, family, children, government, religious institutions, schools, villages, businesses, everyone!
If the people of India can do it to one of their daughters who was brutally attacked, raped and murdered by 6 men in a bus why can't the Fijians. India didn't wait for police to give the approval ...they just spill on the streets.
USP,FNU, Schools, etc. Mere is a student!
Stand up and fight ..be an upstander!! Come on folks let's do it for Mere and all the rape victims of the past, today and tomorrow. Out of the 6 Indian convicts 5 are facing prison sentences while 1 is on death row...simply because of the power of the people that made government to take a step. The system is fucked up!!

It is sad to also hear that the Acting Commissioner who was relieving former Commissioner Col Vasu who is having a case with FICAC after he was sent on leave by the interim Commissioner Kean has finally resigned. May be the other senior corrections officer may also be ask or force to resign or terminated soon. The officers of the Fiji Corrections Service are in great fear because of the recent appointment of a criminal prisoner to become the Commissioner. The future of the organization is now in question??? let alone the inmates and their rehabilitation???

I think they are going to get rid off more Prison Officers and fill the positions with military people.

This is what I was saying : If you want to advance in the Civil Service then you have to join the Army.
That's how Bainimarama works.
And that's why more and more school kids want to join the Army.
THEY ARE NOT STUPID.

So its simple.
Does Bainimarama believe in Education ? NO! He just believes in those that lick his arse, sorry I MEAN SOLDIERS; FIJI ARMY.

And do we ever wonder why there's increasing dropout from school. Yes YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO PASS "FIJI JUNIOR EXAM" to be a Prime Minister of Fiji.

Increased Dropouts lead to more unemployment lead to more crimes committed.
Voila!

Sayad Kaiyum's directive to the FNPF has now caused a major crisis at the FNPF that puts all our FNPF pensions in jeopardy.
The crisis is far greater than the situation that necessitated the review of all pensions a few years ago. Thank you Sayad you have really fucked our retirement future up good and proper.

It happens all the time in Fiji. Double standards.
Last years budget require ALL VEHICLES imported into Fiji to meet the most stringent EURO 4 emissions control.
The recent importation of trucks by the RFMF and the second hand ones procured by the National Fire Authority certainly do not meet this Category. Unlikely they even meet EURO 2.
So much bullshit standards being adhered too.

Why my daughter? This was the question that a mother asked constantly as she wept and spoke openly of the sudden loss of her daughter, Mere Alievu, 14.

Sili Keni, of Lepanoni Village, Pacific Harbour, tried her best to speak of her daughter but the emotions were just overwhelming.

Ms Keni’s daughter, a Year 7 student of Lomary Primary School in Galoa, Serua, was reported missing by her parents around midday on Monday.

A security officer later alerted Police that Mere’s half naked body was found lying motionless at Loloma Beach at around 4pm. The popular picnic spot is near Lepanoni Village.

Ms Keni said described it as an inhumane act.

“I had so many dreams for her future,” the weeping mother said.

“We just bought her new uniform last Saturday for her to wear it today. When I came I asked Police if I could have a glimpse of my daughter because the scene had been cordoned off. When I saw her, she was only wearing her undergarment, her bra was off and a Tee-shirt was tied around her head,” an emotional Ms Keni said.

“There was also blood dripping from her head. We suspect she might have been raped and murdered by someone because her pants were found a few metres away from where her body was found.”

Before disappearance

Mere, the eldest of six children from Lepanoni Village in Pacific Harbour had failed to return home on Sunday night.

After lunch on Sunday, Mere had gone for Palm Sunday rehearsal at their church behind the family house. When she returned, she then told her parents she was going to attend a church crusade taking place at the Assemblies of God Church, minutes away from their home.

At around 11pm on Sunday night, Ms Keni and her husband went searching for her but it was to no avail.

At 6am on Monday, she went out again looking for Mere but still there was no sign of her.

Growing very concerned, Ms Keni went to her husband at midday who was working at the the Coral Coast Christian Centre to report the matter to the Police.

A little after 4pm, Ms Keni received a daunting news. Her younger sister said Mere’s body was found.

“My heart aches now. I brought her up and fed her.

“She is a human being and deserves to be treated and protected; unfortunately the person who did this was so greedy.”

Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho confirmed they now have the post mortem results of Mere but declined to comment on allegations made by the family.

He said investigations were continuing

What would be the sentencing like? This is a homicide involving assault and rape. With a system that is unable to convict the coup perpetrator Frank and his men who assaulted and murdered innocent people and freed murderer Kean to put him straight in the civil service despite defying the civil service rule of conduct, I wonder what ruling is forthcoming for this one.

Anonymous said...

@12.52pm The question still lingers, what are you going to do about it?

The ruling here will be swift and precise when they convict someone, no question about it because victim and perhaps the rapist hold no status within the FF circle or not a blood relative or a friend of Frank. Different story if a relative or friend of Frank is convicted. Sentencing will be different. The example-the cold hearted killer Kean didn't even serve a year after his conviction is now CP in the civil service. Be my guest and kiss his ass too. Now go and continue licking assess...

Another evening passes with communities bombarded by yelling Methodist preachers, depriving many of peaceful quality time in their own homes, depriving children of their parents presence, depriving children of the ability to study in peace.

It's time the Reverend Dr Tevita Banivanua learnt that the word RESPECT has significance within a Christian upbringing and that means teaching HIS preachers to actually have some for others.

WE DO NOT ALL WANT TO HEAR YOUR RAVING, SELFISH, IGNORANT, DISRESPECTFUL PREACHERS 100s OF METRES AWAY FROM THEIR CHURCHES.

TURN IT DOWN, RESPECT OTHERS ! FIND ANOTHER WAY TO SELL YOURSELVES.

Church asks everyone to stand together
AVINESH GOPAL
Wednesday, March 23, 2016
Update: 5:00PM THE Methodist Church in Fiji has asked churches, religious organisations and faith communities to stand together.

In his Easter message, Methodist Church president Reverend Dr Tevita Banivanua asked everyone to stand alongside each other, in love, in honesty and in trust to serve those who are in need.

Mr Banivanua said Easter this year was being observed at a time when many Fijians are suffering from the impact of Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Anonymous said...

The Methodist preachers continue with their disrespect of the peoples rights with their intention to dominate and control others from 4 am in the morning.

Totally oblivious to the damage they are doing to society their behaviour is no different to common criminals. Their deliberate intention to wake and disturb the people to satisfy their own narcissistic bloated egos demonstrates equivalent moral standing in society as the wife beater or child rapist.

Encouraged by the Reverend Dr Tevita Banivanua to perform as showmen with no thought of others, these religious dictators are ruining the Church.

Anonymous said...

Is it any surprise that this sort of behaviour is now rampant in Fiji when the predominant religious institution here, the Methodist denomination demonstrates daily that there is no need to show RESPECT.

Whilst the leadership of the Methodist Church Reverend Dr Tevita Banivanua encourages his preachers to cause the breakdown of family life and social values this same behaviour will be copied by others.

Acts of Vandalism cost $26,000
05:50 Today

Taken from/By: FBC News
Report by: Praneeta Prakash
The recent spate of acts of vandalism on some of the new road assets is costing the Fiji Roads Authority approximately $26,000.

These acts of vandalism were carried out from the Queens Road, Wailoaloa Road Junction to Denarau Road at Narewa in Nadi.

Programme Manager for the Nadi and Suva Road Upgrade Project, Zaina Khan says about 740 plants have been damaged due to theft, uprooting or breakage caused by trampling and the replacement cost for this will be $15,000.

She has also raised concerns that around 10 newly installed road signs have already been twisted from their original positioning causing them to be dented or pulled down.

Khan says the newly constructed footpaths are also being scribbled on and vandalised through practice of graffiti.
She adds FRA will be working closely with the Fiji Police Force and the Land Transport Authority in stepping up their monitoring.

Happy Easter Vili Rakoro. Were you listening to the sermons from the church?. I suspect that the word of the Lord didn't abode well because your partner beast 'legions' in you is starting to get the heat and is uncomfortable. Stay right there and continue to listen to the sermons. The more you listen to the word of the Lord the better for you. Attend Easter service at the closest Methodist church and don't miss the important resurrection service on Sunday . Do that to be free from your longtime lover-Legions.

@6.44am You made some good points there and I fully agree, especially on the emphasis of dominating and controlling others as its soul purpose. They are simply bigoted, narrow minded fashioned clerics who belong to and represent a sect or body of persons.Who have agreed upon particular doctrines or practices, which are to be then forced unto the people without having them to question or challenge their narcissistic views. They clearly are using the church as a platform to brainwash individuals, cultural groups, institutions and communities.

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous 5:49 PM

Should individuals wish to participate in these religious activities they have every right to do so, whether some consider it brainwashing or whatever.

What should not be allowed, and ignored by the police, is that these preachers are FORCING themselves on those that do not wish to be disturbed in their own homes by them. Their ignorance and arrogance is unacceptable in a democratic society and overlooked by their leadership who selfishly deliberately choose to ignore others rights in pursuit of their own.

Those preachers using these excessive volumes to the detriment of others rights are not only hypocrites to their own religion but also law breakers.

The police will tell you that the sound level must be kept within the Church building but are reluctant, unwilling and unable to control this.

It's unfortunate that the head of the Methodist Church in Fiji is actually encouraging his staff to break the law, force themselves on others and be perfect models of how not to act in a civilised society.

The Reverend Dr Tevita Banivanua should be ashamed of himself, he is one of the reasons for the decline of moral values.

@7.50pm I take it the padre has been screaming so loud close to the Mick again and blasting music at unreasonable decibels.I believe the offence is known as common nuisance, the question is why are the authorities showing laxity on addressing this issue?Yes we live in a secular state as stated in our constitution, however we also have the choice of what we decide to believe and to make judgment that assists in distinguishing right from wrong.

We read that the police will lock up anyone breaking the law this weekend starting Thursday night.

So the question must be asked is have they locked up the Methodist preachers blasting out their services that can clearly be heard hundreds of metres away from the Churches they are operating within and is clearly illegal.

Thursday evening and Friday morning from the early hours these Methodist criminals have been breaking the law, but the police have done nothing to stop it.

Police beef up operations for Easter weekend
18:51 Thu Mar 24, 2016

Night operations will clamp down on drunk and disorderly behavior.
Taken from/By: FBC News
Report by: Akosita Talei

Police are taking a hard line approach in their Easter long weekend operations.

Starting tonight, anyone caught breaking the law, will be locked up until the courts re-open on Tuesday.

Police Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu told FBC News they have beefed up operations as of this morning.

Close to one hundred additional police officers will be deployed from this evening to monitor, and make arrests if necessary.

ACP Tudravu told FBC News that drunk drivers are their biggest worry.
“If drivers are caught drinking and driving they will be taken in and will not be released until they’re taken to court. In the long weekend, it means there will be lock up and there will be no bail granted for that for drink and drive cases.

There’s a lot of turn out in Suva whether we don’t have evidence to correlate drunkards in Suva but it appears FNPF money is the result there’s lots of drunkards in town but that’s not official but we’re trying to link it. But there are lots of drunkards in town.”

Picnic spots and recreational will be heavily monitored, while night operations will clamp down on drunk and disorderly behavior.

A special task force has also been deployed in parts of Suva, the West and the North.

Just saw it in Aljazeera that NZ people have rejected through voting the change to their present national flag. This is definitely the lead we in Fiji should follow with the current flag change being imposed forcibly by frank and aiyaz. TC Winston was a pre-emptive event to detour the regime away from the flag changing pursuit to show them there are more important issues at hand than changing or indeed that there is no need at all for any change. Fiji flag is even flying more proudly and conspicuously around the world especially when we follow the sevens events.

Anonymous said...

The flag issue is a waste of breath and money. Be done away with it. Send it to luh luh land on board HMS no come back . The NZ PM on receiving the outcome of the peoples vote on the new flag humbly accepts the wishes of the people. More than 50% prefer to stick to the current flag because it links them to their past.
In Fiji it's obvious that more than 50% will prefer the current one for the same reason. The only people that want the new flag are the regime dictators and their supporters who had been brainwashed and hoodwinked into accepting this change. Keep our flag to keep our past.

Anonymous said...

Bible bashers and church attackers commenting here. Do you think police will come around to tell worshipers and preachers to shut up because of the noise they are making? This is Easter weekend and services will be conducted in the morning hours from Friday till Sunday. You are all welcome to join and celebrate. Police is busy doing their work in the citi pubs, bars and streets where much louder noises are coming from and where crime is most likely to happen .
And to that guy complaining about 4am sermons. To my understanding those that preach loud mixed with very loud music are not the Methodist. Perhaps he is mistaking another denomination. Methodists are traditionalists and worship with respect. They don't jump and yell or even dance like other denominations do. Aren't they talking about Teleni's new Methodist?

"Starting tonight, anyone caught breaking the law, will be locked up until the courts re-open on Tuesday."

I guess Fiji police only decides on what day or night they lock up people breaking the law judging by that statement. Its not a case of what day or night you decide to start locking people up.The law is always in place 24 hours/7 days a week 365days a year all round,it is your duty to uphold, enforce, serve and protect the country by maintaining the laws of the nation. What a silly statement.

The result he gets from his act of valour is(1)not knowing the route to his house and(2) couldn't remember what he was wearing. Keeping Sunday holy

Losalini Bolatagici
Friday, March 25, 2016

Methodist Church in Fiji president Reverend Tevita Banivanua has reminded all Fijians of the need to again recognise Sunday as a "holy day' like before.

He made this plea to his church members in his Easter message, saying Sunday was meant to bring the people together.

"The church building is a rallying point for the Christian community today. We have our individual devotional time and relationship with God, but on Sundays, we come together as a community of faith.

"We need to come back to that sense of recognising Sunday as a "holy day", for the entire faith community rather treating it as a "holiday" for individual pursuits.

...........................................

Perhaps the Reverend Tevita Banivanua and his noisy preachers need to understand why many treat Sunday as a "holiday" for individual pursuits.

Firstly it's an individuals right to treat any day as they wish as long as they act within the law of the land and also to acceptable societal standards.

Secondly, it's an individuals right to choose any day as a holy day or not a holy day in accordance with their personal beliefs, wishes or religion.

Thirdly if the Reverend Tevita Banivanua is concerned about followers within his own faith and other faiths he needs to understand that people need a holiday or break to survive through life in a balanced manner.

It is the Reverend Tevita Banivanua who encourages his preachers to disturb the people by loud noise nuisance and preaching every day of the working week through the evenings and starting again from 4 am in the mornings.

It is the Reverend Tevita Banivanua who also encourages his preachers to do the same throughout Sunday, continuing to disturb the peace in entire communities.

It is the Reverend Tevita Banivanua's own fault that Sunday is now needed as a holiday or break by so many because they are sick and tired of your arrogant selfish preachers who have absolutely no respect for those outside of the Church building who DO NOT WANT TO BE FORCED TO HEAR YOUR CHURCH SERVICES IN THEIR OWN HOMES.

It's time that the Reverend Tevita Banivanua stops his pursuit of religious domination by noise disturbance and considers the consequences to ALL by the disrespectful behaviour of his preachers.

@10:18 AM & 12:38 PM

it seems that the government is postponing for the third time the choice of the final designs... only in Fiji.
It think it is too "religious" a statement to say that cyclone Winston was sent by God to prevent Bainimarama to change the flag... It is indeed an expensive way to do so... a little heart attack would have done the same!

As for New Zealand, the surprise comes from the very low support for the colonial flag. It rather suggests the issue will come back in the fiture because after all a bad flag is a bad flag, and it really sucks: http://www.smh.com.au/comment/new-zealand-flag-referendum-think-this-is-the-end-of-it-think-again-20160325-gnr4gd.html New Zealand is still planning to become a republic like Fiji, and when that will happen, the Union Jack will have to go.

Fiji's situation is fascinating. The flag breaks all the rules, Fiji has been kicked out of the Commonwealth and remains so, yet the people see nothing wrong. It's like if good taste and common sense were just not a local thing. I hope the flag will change only if there is a really good design to replace it. We haven't seen that so far...

I suspect when this was written it was not considered that one day in the future people would want the hospitals open on Sunday, buses and taxis running to get people to where they want to go and the shop keeper opening at six because all the food was eaten on Saturday.

And let's not forget the FEA and WAF whos services we expect around the clock seven days a week.

And lastly, the Police who are needed to remove the drunks from the streets, deal with the domestic disputes and work around the clock to solve the outstanding serious crimes. If they did not work on the Sabbath all those that make reference to these archaic writings would be moaning.

Anon 10.46pm...The author of these archaic writings is well aware of needs of every living beings to the point where provision to do good on the Sabbath is still paramount. He makes a profound declaration that it is not only needed but it is "lawful to do good on the Sabbath day" Matt12:12 ...might I say that those who do not provide essential services on the Sabbath would find themselves in prison if this was to be taken as the law of the land. The principles of the Sabbath are still relevant in our day, however the overriding theme is to love your country man as you love yourself. The author knows the beginning and the end, so let him be what he is.

Editor,
I share editorial writer Sailosi Batiratu's joy that homeless street dweller Ram Baran,80, has got a tent home from the assistance provided after Cyclone Winston ( ' Disaster for the Better' Fiji Times 27/03 ).
But Batiratu fails to ask the hard questions. How come this elderly destitute man was living under a bridge for 8 years without the State agencies or civil society coming to his assistance? Why was this allowed to happen in the " new " Fiji where everyone is equal - meaning, I take it, having equal human dignity?
Why did it have to take a category 5 cyclone for help to come his way?
How many other people out there in the same predicament?
Saint Thomas Aquinas described a just society as one that is ordered to the common good, that is the good of everyone.
Is Fiji today ordered in that way?

@Rajend you should read up on Bainimarama and Khaiyums so called self reliance objective. You have to love it when the Fiji government says "No one owes us a living. We will avoid creating the dependency syndrome."

The biggest dependency syndrome parasites in Fiji is the fucking government and its politicians.Useless the lot of them, who will sponge on the hard workers taxes and foreign governments aid paid by foreign citizens through their taxes.Government relies and depends on people to put them in power. They depend on its citizens to put a group of people with the authority to govern the country to a particular ministry in office, so they can have their fat extremely obese black ass sat on a chair sucking the blood out of the country and instead of finding a solution to solve the nations problems they want the people to treat them like super celebrities and to be gods the true messiah etc etc.

The dumb fucking population fall for these crooks lies and forget who put them there in the first place. They forgot that they (the people) are the Employers of these so called ministers.8 years one of our own citizens was living under a bridge and yet the government views such circumstances as no one owes you a living and the society that voted us in said they agree. It took foreign donors to actually supply him a tent and not one of our own.I tell you what utter embarrassment, shame on the government maybe time will come where those who have and support the same views shall live under a bridge and worse in a hole.God knows the truth and punishment will come on the day of judgement.God willing no mercy will be given.

ABUSE OF POWER
We learn from ABC 24 News 28/03 that former Malaysian Attorney General planned to lay charges against PM Najib Razak for corruption following the discovery of over $1 billion in his personal account which he claimed was a " donation " from the Saudi Royal family.
Now it's clear by Najib Razak got rid of him and installed a crony as AG.
It was to save his paachu/ backside.
ABC Four Corners tonight will present a segment on this biggest corruption scandal to hit a democratically elected PM. ( Just days ago Najib Razak got his gestapo to detain the ABC journalists for questioning him about the money but later decided to release them without any charge because they realised the spotlight was on them and they were making an arse of themselves as a democracy).
Abuse of power and corruption is quite common - only the scale of it varies from country to country. Malaysia might have set a new world record!

@Anonymous 2:27 PM

You say "It took foreign donors to actually supply him a tent and not one of our own".

The foreign donors supplied this tent for cyclone victims, not the long term homeless.

Fiji is no different than any other country, they all have homeless, beggars and the not so well off so no doubt you reckon every other government in the world is useless?

So this guy has been living under a bridge for years. Amazing isn't it when in Fiji so much is spent on new Churches, Church obligations, Church functions, Church crusades, sound systems for Churches, temporary shelters for Church performances and transport to get around to attend Churches, it must be a rich country.

Perhaps one day in the future the government may be in a financial position to house any homeless easily but whilst it has to spend so much money trying to keep the country clean and disease free from all those who use everywhere as a rubbish tip there's little chance.

And as for self reliance, thank God someone is pushing for this.

Fiji will not interfere in seasonal workers claims in Australia
16:05 Today

Taken from/By: FBC News
Report by: Savaira Tabua

In an exclusive interview with FBC News, Employment Minister Semi Koroilavesau confirms the Australian government is dealing with this issue.

The government is letting Australian authorities handle all allegations because it doesn’t want to compromise potential job opportunity for Fijians in the future.

Employment Minister Semi Koroilavesau says such issues need to be handled professionally.

“We are in need of work and Australia and New Zealand are willing to provide these work and as far as Fiji government is concerned this needs to be handled properly in a diplomatic level so that this opportunity does not go away and we continue to be looked at favorably by the employers both in Australia and New Zealand.”

Six Fijians recruited under the Seasonal Workers Program in Australia claims they were underpaid by their employer.

The six workers will continue to work until the expiry of their VISA .One has returned while the other five are still in Australia under the guidance of the Australian authorities.

Surely you would not expect this government to have to wipe the asses of these few who chose to work abroad?

Always find an opportunity to wiggle his way through even though the subject matter is different to scapegoat the church for this mishap . Yes ,the case is Ram Baran,80, the homeless local forgotten by his own, the community, the government, etc has finally got the attention of the relief workers and the media. The Govt is still out of the blue and as usual still blind from what the ordinary citizens are facing every single day. This is straight negligence and failure. Vili Rakoro is so smart and arrogant to participate on this topic as usual to divert attention to the church, esp, the Methodist. Vili, the church has been in this business for hundreds of years even before your bu and tukai were born. A ministry in the church that deals with such human issue is still working now. One of the offshoot is the current Dilkusha Orphanage which started off picking poor, destitute and orphaned off the streets to nurture them until maturity . The Orphanage has no racial or religious barrier in taking these kids in. One of the girls raised in Dilkusha was a Hindu who became a one time Miss Hibiscus. There are un-answered questions Vili and to blame the church for this poor man's fate is a total mockery of yourself and your inept understanding of the church. Did you find out why his family who is directly responsible had left him in such inhumanely state? How about the auspices of his spiritual Hindu house? Did you ask the police and social welfare? Too many questions Vili? And the scum of all is the failure of the government to recognize what the people are facing daily. Beggars and homeless are growing Vili. Is the state going to do something?

An opponent to Fiji's planned change of flag says that in light of the damage caused by Cyclone Winston, spending taxpayers money on a new flag would be deeply insensitive.

Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama last year announced that the country would replace its national flag to remove symbols of British colonialism.

The government said it would select five alternative designs to present to the public by the end of this month, before a period of consultation.

It had been hoped that the process would be completed by Constitution Day in September, where the old flag -- with a British Union Cross at the top left corner and a shield with symbols including the British lion and the Cross of St George in its right half -- would be lowered for the final time.

But Peter Waqavonovono, who is part of a network of youth leaders who have been campaigning against changing the flag, said nothing had been heard about the flag recently.

He said there were currently more urgent areas for money to be directed.

"A lot of people would actually consider this very insensitive for the prime minister to actually start you know using money unwisely and diverting tax payers money to creating a new flag," he said.

Mr Bainimarama, who refuses to entertain the idea of a referendum on the flag, has said he wants a new flag this year, although nothing has been said about whether Cyclone Winston will affect that process.

Police: Avoid traditional practice of seeking forgiveness
By MERE NALEBA
Wednesday, March 30, 2016
Update: 12:11PM

POLICE is calling on members of the public to refrain from engaging in the traditional process of asking for forgiveness when it comes to matters such as sexual assault or rape.

The warning comes after a 39-year-old man of Vunibuabua settlement in Pacific Harbour was charged with two counts of rape, one count of murder and another of abduction of a 14-year-old girl.

Police chief intelligence and investigating officer ACP Luke Navela said the incident could have been avoided.

"We also plead to members of the public that it is their duty to report sexual offence cases to police to allow for our investigations to proceed," ACP Navela said.

"The man had been committing the offence for a number of years and people living around the nearby settlements never reported the matter as the suspect's mother had been engaged in the traditional process of seeking forgiveness or through the religious means of apologising. The old woman has passed away and the 39-year-old man continued with this immoral act of rape."

JUSTICE SERVED
We learn from the Guardian 30/03 that a Costa Rican court has sentenced 4 men to decades in prison ( minimum of 50 years) for the 2013 murder of environmentalist Jairo Mora,26, a Costa Rican working to protect sea turtle nests and the rape of 4 western female volunteers who were with him. Prosecutors said the convicted men were part of a turtle egg poaching gang who grabbed Mora; beat him unconscious; tied him to a pick up truck and dragged him along the beach until he suffocated in the sand. The female volunteers ( 3 Americans and a Spainiard ) were tied up, held for hours and raped. The savagery of the attack dealt a severe blow to Costa Rico's image as a safe, Eco- tourist friendly destination.
Now the thugs who carried out the savage attack are where they ought to be.

Indonesia to provide US$5 million in cyclone assistance to Fiji

SUVA, 30 MARCH 2016 (ISLANDS BUSINESS) ----Indonesia will provide up to $US5million in assistance, including a contingent of army engineers to help in Fiji's rehabilitation after Tropical Cyclone Winston.

The deal is expected to be cemented later this week during a visit to Fiji by Indonesia's Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister General Luhut Pandjaitan.

On this visit Pandjiatan - accompanied by two provincial governors of Papua - will meet Fiji's Prime Minister, Rear Admiral Frank Bainimarama.

While Pandjiatan denied any links between his visit and the rising anti-Indonesian sentiment within Melanesian Spearhead Group countries, he will carry a letter from President Joko Widodo to Bainimarama.

His visit comes on the back of a visit by MSG Chair and Solomon Islands PM Mannaseh Sogovare to Fiji.

Sogovare has promised to pursue West Papua's inclusion in the United Nations Decoloniosation List - the C24.

PNG and Fiji are the two MSG countries which have consistently failed to speak out against Indonesian human rights abuses in the territory it annexed in 1961.....PACNEWS

How China’s illegal fishing armada is plundering the South Pacific

By Michael Field

AUCKLAND, 30 MARCH 2016 (THE SPIN OFF) ---- Illegal fishing, much of it by China, is costing some of the world’s smallest and poorest nations hundreds of millions of dollars. Why isn’t the New Zealand government doing more about the blatant theft in its backyard, asks Michael Field.

It would have been a tense moment or two for Captain Wang Chang Fu when, in the middle of the Pacific, his ship was boarded by armed men from an American guided missile destroyer.

That the men and women boarding the Chinese flagged purse seiner Jin Liao Yu 77 were from the USS William P. Lawrence only made it stranger.

Inside Nauru’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), the warship searched eight Chinese boats under a rarely used security operation that can turn American warships into fisheries patrol vessels for Pacific Island nations.

The US 7th Fleet says no violations were found on Wang’s skipjack tuna boat. The 32 crew had been “cordial and intrigued by US presence in the region”, they said.

The US seldom checks out the South Pacific and Washington is mostly ignoring the region. But things might be changing.

China’s deep water fishing armada, the largest in the world, is plundering the South Pacific. Just as they are wiping out Africa’s elephants to make ivory chess-pieces and India’s tigers to fight off impotence, they are rapaciously taking as much tuna as they think they can get away with, including endangered species.

Inside esoteric fishing rights conferences it is common knowledge that China’s new and powerful boats could within a decade destroy the $3 billion a year Pacific tuna industry.

Since 2012 the Chinese Pacific fishing fleet has grown 528 per cent.

With heavy subsidies, it is Chinese state policy to make it worthwhile for their fleets to go after the last fish.

But Pacific nations, beholden to Beijing for the Lego-like buildings popping up in their capitals, are mostly silent, as was shown recently in Auckland at the release of a report written for the Forum Fisheries Agency by Australian consultants MRAG Asia Pacific on illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) tuna fishing in the Pacific.

IUU fishing was said to be worth US$616.11 million each year or 20 per cent of the annual catch. It’s like every person on Tuvalu was robbed of US$4400 a year.

Nowhere did the report say who the thief was and officials, when asked, blushed and preferred not to say. That’s because it is China, with the worst culprits their hundreds of new longliners.

Armed with 3000 hooks on 100 kilometre lines, longliners target albacore and yellow fin. Silky and whitetip sharks are a favourite “by-catch”, their fins kept and the rest dumped.

Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission data shows 68 per cent of the 480 registered longliners are Chinese. Most of the rest, flying Pacific flags, are Chinese-owned. Twenty-one per cent of the Pacific purse seiners are Chinese and their numbers are growing rapidly. You can buy them on Alibaba.com.

Anonymous said...

The scale of Chinese abuse of the tuna fishery is easily tracked but often ignored.

Two years ago the China Tuna Industry Group launched an IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange seeking US$150 million for fleet expansion. Its prospectus said it had for years breached international fisheries agreements and broke quotas. It said there was no risk of them being held responsible, so investors need not worry.

That proved correct.

Then there was the case of two Aucklanders game fishing out of Vava’u in Tonga in November 2012. They caught a blue marlin reckoned around 75 kilograms. They tagged and released it. Two years later the same fish, weighing 158 kg, was caught by Chinese longliner Rong Da Yong. Dead, it was dumped overboard, but not before the tag was collected and posted away to redeem a US$20 reward.

Game-fish charter boat operator Henk Gros has been tagging marlin for over two decades.

“I wonder why we even bother; they get slaughtered by the tuna longliners. The longliners north of us are stripping the tuna. They are taking the whole base chain out of the ocean.”

A European Parliament report on China says the “activities and catches of the Chinese distant water fleets are almost completely undocumented and unreported, and often … may actually be illegal, thus spanning the entire gamut of IUU fishing”.

China’s plunder is global but I will only use one incident to illustrate it, if only because I had a modest involvement in it, thanks to my book The Catch. Rumour was about that Chinese boats were near the search zone for the Malaysian Airlines’ missing MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean. Research suggested they were longliners and Sea Shepherd’s MV Steve Irwin, with the soft spoken Bengali Sid Chakravarty on the helm, went for a look. They found Chinese flagged Fu Yuan Yu 76 using a hundreds of kilometres-long driftnet, killing everything in its path.

They were flagrantly violating a 1991 United Nations resolution banning driftnets longer than 2.5 kilometres. New Zealanders should feel affronted: the UN ban derives from the 1989 Wellington Convention banning South Pacific driftnetting. That convention was the product of Geoffrey Palmer.

Fu Yuan Yu ran with Sea Shepherd chasing. As they near China the People’s Liberation Army Navy showed up. The story is still playing out.

In March the Argentine Navy sank a fleeing Chinese squid boat Lu Yan Yuan Yu 010 which had refused to stop after being caught fishing in the EEZ. Beijing has threatened retaliation.

The same month, Indonesia tried to arrest a Chinese fishing boat caught off the Natuna Islands. A China Coast Guard cutter rammed the Indonesian vessel, preventing it from making an arrest. Beijing say the place is their “traditional fishing grounds”.

And this is could be the fate of the South Pacific.

The hundreds of boats, crewed with cheap South East Asian labour and tanked up with subsidized fuel, are not actually profitable. Their strategy is to build up a presence ahead of the time South Pacific nations wake up and want to protect their waters. The Chinese will show their “fishing record” and before you know it, even the Lau Basin, between Tonga and Fiji, will have become Beijing’s “traditional fishing grounds”.

New Zealand and Pacific nations are hoping that electronic technology will frustrate China’s IUU fishing. They can get observers onto the bigger purse seiner boats, but few observers are willing to travel on the smaller, rougher longliners. They have transponders on the longliners so they know where the boats are likely to be (even if they get switched off a lot). Now the idea is remote-controlled cameras on longliner decks.

Beijing has mostly purchased South Pacific political silence over the issue. There is a strong and rank stench of corruption in many a capital as well. The region needs new leaders ready to challenge China over what it is doing.

And our politicians and diplomats should be speaking out, embarrassing the Chinese, backed with a better stick: a significantly improved Defence Force capability out in the South Pacific and Southern Ocean.

While Wellington is fond of lending one of our two frigates to the Red Sea pirate patrols, the navy’s fisheries work is pathetic. This was proven in January last year when a boarding crew from the offshore patrol boat HMNZS Wellington sought to board one of three toothfish pirate ships in the Southern Ocean.

Its Spanish skipper told them to bugger off. Short on fuel and having fired off most of their ammunition in target practice a week earlier, the navy meekly obeyed. Sea Shepherd did the job.

The air force’s P3K Orions are terrific at Pacific patrols, but they seldom fly them. Short on crews and budget restraints, their time is mostly spent on search and rescue. Refighting the Cold War, they actually still go looking for submarines now and again.

The message should be that the Chinese threat is not under the water; it’s on it. How long before the PLA Navy sends vessels out here to support their fishing fleets like they do in Indonesian waters?

We need more aircraft or even long range drones.

The New Zealand Defence Force – now passively describing itself as a “force for good” – needs new Pacific range capable vessels. Not just the two we have now, but a fleet of them. We need to be seen out there, boarding, inspecting and making it clear that the waters are the “traditional fishing grounds” of the people of the Pacific.

Fishing skippers need solid grounds to believe that their chances of being boarded and inspected are high. Right now the odds of it happening are up there with seeing the Great White Whale.

And why should we worry about the wider Pacific?

It’s intriguing to look at what happens near the Kermadecs, about to become one of the world’s biggest marine sanctuaries. Just outside the EEZ, Chinese and Spanish (an emerging but still small fleet here) longliners “fish the line”, taking as much of the migratory tuna that they can grab before it reaches New Zealand’s safe waters.

We are being too friendly to folk who are trying to invent a new right to steal the Pacific’s common wealth......PACNEWS

@FF DICK SUCKER VILI RAKORO

the six Fijian seasonal farm workers complained bitterly last year of exploitation and discrimination by their Australian employer, Fiji's Ministry of Labour (MOL) jumped the gun to claim the six seasonal workers were lying. Now the truth is out and according to Australian authorities, our Fijian workers virtually got nothing from a week's job and this calls for a thorough investigation and a full understanding of Australian labour laws.

Does Fiji's MOL fully understand the nitty-gritty of how these farms work or is something missing that those selected were not aware of before departing our shores?. Key information about wage deductions need to be explained to these workers from day 1.

I know of those in NZ who are being paid NZ Government's minimum wage of $NZ15.25 per hour. If they work for 48 hours, they stand to collect more than $NZ700 a week.

If the report of less than $A200 is paid for a week's work in Australia, this is equivalent to $A4.20 an hour. MOL must make a decision which country they should send our workers to. If they are being exploited and discriminated against in Australia, stop sending workers to Australia until and unless the Australian Government ensures our workers are treated the same way as Australian workers.

The key issue now in the latest complaint is about deductions. Any deduction must be explained and understood by the workers. Workers must be allowed to make choices about farm accommodation, places to shop, which medical insurance they should follow and other related miscellaneous expenses. At the end of the day, these choices or options must be well defined so these issues of over deductions do not occur.

I understand these farm workers stay in rented caravans, which are organised by the farm owners. Has MOL explored or enquired with caravan companies of possible supply of caravans to our workers?, which I believe are much cheaper than those organised by farm owners. At the end of the day, MOL must see these seasonal farm workers have and make choices that are economical to workers themselves.

On the same note, MOL should engage Fijian communities in Australia to assist these so-called seasoned workers. Many of these workers are first timers in a foreign land and for that, Fijian communities, associations established in major Australian cities should be roped in to assist them on key issues.

I am of the opinion the farm owners organise everything for the workers and this is reflected on the deductions made on workers weekly pay slip. Regulatory deductions are unavoidable. However, MOL must work to see other deductions such as boarding are reduced or taken out completely, if external options of cheap boarding is available. At the end of the day, these workers applied for these job opportunities to earn some money and send some for those family members back at home.

Staying in a foreign land with only $15 in your pocket is a great injustice that Fiji's MOL must ensure doesn't happen to our citizens.

In my honest opinion, MOL needs to do more than just organising, selecting and sending these workers to Australian farms.

Seasonal workers from Fiji who were paid less than $10 (US$7) a week have been told they must return to work for the contractor they say exploited them — or leave Australia.

An ABC investigation last month revealed many of the workers received little or no pay after deductions while picking fruit and vegetables for AFS Contracting, in northern Victoria.

Since then, representatives from the Departments of Employment and Immigration met the Fijians, who have quit working for the contractor that sponsored their temporary visas to come to Australia.

The government officials told the workers they did not have long to make their decision.

“They [are] pushing us to go back home. Every one of us is not happy,” one of the group's leaders, Merewairita Sovasiga, said.

“And we are going back home with nothing. We are taking nothing back home.”

The Fijians said they would like to stay and find work with other employers.

Most are desperate to make some money before returning home.

“Most of these workers have homes that were devastated by the cyclone," said Sakiusa Lesuma, a Fijian-Australian who is assisting the seasonal workers.

“This is the reason they want to stay back, and work somewhere else, earn some money.”

The ABC understands the Departments of Immigration and Employment told the Fijians the only option to earn money was to return to work for AFS Contracting and its owner, Tony Yamankol.

The workers from Fiji at the meeting said they would not do that.

“If you don't want to go back to Fiji, then they're trying to send us to our employer, Tony [Yamankol]. But I don't like it," one of the workers at the meeting, Manueli Taione, said.

“The way they treat us, they treat us like slaves, you know?”

The ABC tried repeatedly to contact AFS Contracting owner Mr Yamankol to ask him about the workers' allegations. He did not respond to numerous phone calls and emails.

Visits to the farm where the Fijians worked,Yamankol's home and his registered office address were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the Fijian Government has asked Australian authorities to look into the latest round of complaints of underpayment made by Fijians on the seasonal workers scheme in Australia.

Fijian Employment Minister Semi Koroilavesau said he was aware of the complaints and communication had been established with relevant authorities.

“There have been complaints raised and we have asked our Australian counterparts to handle the matter and inform us on their findings,” Koroilavesau told the Fiji Times.

“We are waiting for the report and we need to be patient as it is not only Fijian workers who are involved in this seasonal work programme."

Koroilavesau said he was awaiting advice on the issue from counterparts in Australia adding that ministry executives were in contact with Australian officials.

There have also been numerous social media posts on the situation with online groups established to document the alleged exploitation but Koroilavesau said calmer heads needed to prevail.

Koroilavesau said both Australia and Fiji were learning from these experiences.

“Both governments know that there would be initial difficulties and it is work in progress. We cannot rush into these schemes hoping for miracles and as I have said, both governments are working together to overcome these hurdles.”

He said the ministry was reviewing its selection criteria to allow the best suited Fijians to travel to Australia and not only be good workers but good ambassadors.

“While our ministry have been thorough in their selection, it is evident that there are still loopholes that we need to cover and improve on.

“Our preparations have been thorough also and I personally farewelled the groups in Nadi and have genuine discussions with them but we need to be patient and have a better understanding on the issues,” said Koroilavesau.

Report by: Maggie Boyle

A 32-year-old farmer has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the rape of a foreign national who was in Fiji as a church community worker.

MarikaTubeinavatu was found guilty by assessors in the rape of the 19-year-old who was living with his family at the time of the incident.

In sentencing, the high court judge noted that this is a case of acquaintance rape, a form of sexual coercion where a known person forcefully and manipulatively has sexual intercourse with the victim.

The victim is reported to have contracted a sexually transmitted disease after the rape. In the victim impact report, it notes that she is undergoing severe psychological trauma which has adversely affected her life.

Tubeinavatu will have to serve a period of 7 years to be eligible for parole.

Is Frank and his regime aware of the Chinese ruthless and illegal behavior in the Pacific? The fishing in the waters between Tonga and Fiji had been the illegal ground for Asians for a number of years. First it was the Japanese where the word " kabawaqa" got its origin from. The word was labelled at our women prostitutes conducting their businesses alongside Suva Wharf where the Asian fishing vessels were docked. Vili Rakoro is an offspring of this trade, he knows it thus his erratic behaviour and his strong ties with the FF party and Frank. The Japs were followed by the Taiwanese. And with the rising power in the East, China is taking over that trade in our waters . When the Japs and Thais were here, large sizes of skipjack, yellowfin and bluefin tuna were still caught on a traditional fishing line. Meaning there were abundance. Today it's rare to find one at the end of the fishing line because tuna is netted. Population has dropped dramatically.
Our coast Guard (navy) who are directly responsible for securing our waters from these illegal fishing were not doing their job. Still they're today and being an X naval commander himself Frank cannot sit back and do nothing. He knows it because it was during his term when the illegal fishing was going on.
It's obvious that someone is getting rich from this trade and that person is running the country today.

We learn from Reuters 30/03 article ' Tears flow as Myanmar swears in first president with no army ties in more than 50 years' that there was universal joy among the people and their democratically elected leaders.
When will Fiji go back to having a president with no army ties?
My reading of prevailing Fiji politics tells me that's no likely to happen any time soon.

rajend naidu...I concur with you about the decades long sentences rightly given to the culprits in Costa Rica for rape and murder.. But in Australia where you proudly live, crims are regularly given parole for rape, murder and other serious crimes. Jill Meaghers killer in Melbourne was on parole when he killed her. Why aren't you highlighting all the crimes and stupidity in the legal system in Australia? Get off your high horse and stop being so judgmental and acting like every post needs to be an academia thesis. Crimes, injustice, dishonesty (do I need to jog your memory about your behaviour while a Fiji civil servant) happen everywhere. Nitpicking and selective shaming are Indian specialities and despicable.

The new Fiji Flag should have a Pyramid in it, because we are run by the Illuminati ( In Fiji they are called QORVIS)

Pyramid with the Eye in the top part - like the US Dollar Bill.
ie the Eye of Horace.
Also the Eye that is signalled by those famous in Hollywood and in the Music Industry , like JayZ and Rhianna & Katy Perry . They are always covering one eye or they show it in their Music Clips. or Dress.)

In Fiji we can have it in our Flag.
QORVIS will be very happy with that idea.

I would also suggest that at the 3 corners of the triangle we can have 3 HOLES or circles to signify the 3 ARSEHOLES THAT are running the country .
At the TOP would be QORVIS and the other two corners would be Bainimarama and Kaiyum.

I'm sure that QORVIS will love this Flag and also Bai and Kai.

There wont be any Symbols for Fijians or Indians because as far as the 3 arseholes are concerned they don't give a shit what these people think.

So there you go people : A blue flag.....with a Pyramid or Triangle....with an eye on the Upper part and 3 DARK HOLES at the points....
This is the Flag that Illuminati (QORVIS) wants and don't say I did not warn ya.

PUblic Protest Laws UnAustralian
I agree with Campbelltown MP Greg Warren that the anti- coal seam gas mining public protest laws are " outrageous" and that they undermine citizens " democratic rights such as free speech" ( ' Protest penalty worries' The Advertiser 30/03).
Anti- coal seam gas advocates have criticised the new laws that expose protesters to heavier fines and up to seven years jail time.
These laws sound like something out of Egypt, Russia, China or Uzbekistan . Not Australia - a First World democracy.
It's a shame that such a law has been enacted here.
No wonder many civil rights and human rights defenders claim democracy is being degraded by the ruling political elite in Australian and their big business mates.

# Prize for the Most Breathtakingly Craven Political Move of the Year - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who said at the start of the presidential race that Donald Trump was unfit to be President of the United States. But after he dropped out of the presidential race - and reportedly began entertaining fantasies of a vice-presidential slot on the ticket - he sang a different song "... There is none who is better prepared to provide America with the strong leadership that it needs both at home and around the world than Donald Trump". Dad guilty of raping child

Shayal Devi
Friday, April 01, 2016

THE High Court in Lautoka found a father guilty of raping his seven-year-old daughter in 2012.

The man appeared before judge Justice Aruna Aluthge charged with one count of rape. While outlining the summary of facts, Justice Aluthge said the victim was the biological daughter of the accused and his de facto partner.

The court also heard the victim and her siblings were scared of their father.

Justice Aluthge said the victim ran away from her home to her uncle to whom she relayed the incident.

Her uncle then reported the matter to police.

"I agree with the unanimous opinion of the assessors and prosecution proved the charge beyond reasonable doubt and the accused is convicted of rape."

Justice Aluthge said while delivering the judgement.

Perhaps it's favourable for some to sleep on the streets rather than go to their homes.

For many their homes no longer feel like their own because of the continual invasion of their rights to reasonable peace and living by ignorant selfish Methodist preachers blasting out their services.

How many of these drunks have been driven to despair by this arrogant practice being encouraged by the Methodist leadership?

Is it any surprise this behaviour is on the rise when many Methodist preachers continue to demonstrate all that is wrong with society and fail miserably with the understanding of RESPECT for others.

Drunkards loitering and sleeping on the streets to be locked up
17:42 Fri Apr 01, 2016

Taken from/By: FBC News
Report by: Akosita Talei

People found drunk and incapable and those sleeping on the streets due to heavy intoxication of alcohol will be arrested and locked up in cells from this weekend.

This is a directive from Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho as concerns continue to be raised on the number of drunkards on our streets.

Brigadier General Qiliho says they are taking this approach to send a strong message out to people to drink responsibly.
‘’Sometimes we go past the Suva bus stand on Saturday morning; it’s like a huge bedroom where everyone is lined up along those seats taking a nap.

That’s why I’ve given specific instructions that if people are drunk and incapable they need to be taken in. Because we will come out and address those issues starting from this weekend because of the increase in numbers of people that are out there and it could lead to other crimes. You need to go home where you can be well looked after as it can lead to other crimes while people are sleeping. Those places are public places and it was never meant to be a bedroom anyway’’.

Brigadier General Qiliho says being drunk and incapable is an offense which will result in people getting locked up and produced in court.
The public are being advised to take this matter seriously as Police will be out in numbers to control the mass drunkards from tonight.

Encouraging drunks to sleep on the streets may be a good idea? Not sure where you read "encouraging" the practice in the post at 8:45 pm but it's something to think about.

If the drunks remain on the street they will not be causing problems in the homes and communities they return to in such a sorry state? There could be less domestic violence, less rape, less fights....................

But fortunately the police recognise this and say they will now lock them up to protect them from themselves and protect the rest of society from them.

The question arises, do the police stations have the capacity for the numbers? Unlikely.

Perhaps the solution is to tackle the root of the problem,

a) who's allowing the sale of alcohol to people that are so drunk?
b) why is the Methodist Church turning a blind eye to it's preachers and leaders who advocate antisocial and illegal behaviour?

The Fiji government has again delayed the process to replace the country's flag.

It had said it would present five designs chosen through the prime minister's office by the end of March and then the public would have three months to select one.

There has been no explanation what caused the latest delay.

Last year, the prime minister, Frank Bainimarama, abandoned the flag change process after saying a new flag would be hoisted on 10th October, which was the 45th anniversary of independence.

At the time, 23 designs had been selected from more than 1,400 entries.

Under the latest initiative, the new flag is expected to be raised on Constitution Day in September.

Mr Bainimarama said Fiji would remove the Union Jack and replace it with a design that symbolises the Pacific nation and not the former colonial power Britain.

He has ruled out a referendum despite calls for the public to be given a chance to decide.

----

I think time has come for Bainimarama to clear up the air... he is making a fool of himself with all those delays!!!!

Editor,
Here's an extract from an article by Archie Brown that Fiji politics followers would be able to relate to. Archie Brown is a political scientist and historian. He is Emeritus Professor of Politics at the University of Oxford where he is also an Emeritus Fellow of St Antony's College. His most recent book is The Myth of the Strong Leader: Political Leadership in the Modern Age 2014).
We read the following in his article ' We Must Stop Worshipping the False God of the Strong Leader' :
" Politicians spent a lot of time trying to portray the leader they oppose as weak. They believe this resonates with a broader public. Its not only in authoritarian regimes but in democracies, too, that the notion prevails that we need a strong leader. What is usually meant by that is a leader who concentrates a great deal of power in his ( or her ) hands, dominates public policy, calls the shots in the political party, and makes all the big decisions in government... ( Now who does that in Fiji's "true" democracy?)
... prime ministers and party leaders acquire an unrealistic belief in the exceptional quality of their judgement... It is not altogether surprising that leaders should fall prey to arrogance...what is more astounding is that so many of the rest of us should undervalue collegial and collective decision-making. Party leaders and prime ministers were not chosen because they were deemed to have a monopoly of wisdom. It is time we stopped worshipping the false god of the strong individual leader".
IT IS TIME INDEED!

Yes it is preferable that these drunks remain on the streets in the towns, near the locations where they are fuelled with alcohol then the police can handle them far easier than if they are spread around.

Think outside the box !

Power of Ideas
In his interview on Planet America ,ABC this morning 3/04 Bill Curry the former advisor to President Clinton and now with presidential candidate Bernie Saunders said " the power of ideas is far greater than the power of money". And Bernie Saunders has demonstrated he is a man of intelligent ideas and integrity and that is the reason for his appeal among young people in America and why his campaign to bring about a revolution in America continues to gain momentum notwithstanding the predictions of the mainstream media and political pandits.
Curry also said dealing with " political corruption" is the key to turning things around in the governance model in America. And that is what Bernie Saunders is doing with his individual $27 campaign fundraising donations that now has 6 million contributors. Unlike the others he has moved away from relying on the big end of town to drive his political campaign.
It is the power and influence of the big end of town that is responsible for the political corruption Curry refers to.
I think we too know what he means,

FORMER Fiji Police Force chief of intelligence and investigations Henry Brown says he has no confidence in Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.

Mr Brown, who is in Australia, emailed about his resignation from the Fiji Police Force in January this year. He had been sent on leave by Commissioner Brig-Gen Qiliho a month earlier, who had said Mr Brown was under investigation.

Mr Brown said the accusations levelled against him were baseless and the decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, not to lay any charges against him was because there was insufficient evidence.

"The Office of the DPP has found what was obvious from the beginning, especially allegations plucked out of thin air. Until today, I am not aware as to who is making the allegation," he said.

Mr Brown said he had seen no documents or statements about the allegations against him, even though the whole police force knew his email address.

"I did not agree to be sent on leave, because leave is earned and not for internal or any sort of investigations. I was forced to choose leave or interdiction (half pay).

"My leave allowed me the freedom of travel and not to sit and wait for the outcome of a trumped up investigation, investigators with serious integrity (and ethics) issues," Mr Brown said.

Mr Brown said he had served Fiji faithfully and was a qualified executive member of the force with 31 years of experience, and should have been treated as such.

"The simple rule of an internal allegation is to give the implicated officer a chance to respond before any decision is made. Unfortunately I was not given the opportunity at all.

"I also lost faith in the leadership of the organisation … the whole charade reeked of a witch-hunt for reasons best known to Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho."

Mr Brown said the approval for his resignation was emailed by a junior officer and was accepted but Brig-Gen Qiliho kept saying in the local media he was waiting for Mr Brown to return.

"I had no confidence in Brig-Gen Qiliho when he stated in the media that he was personally overseeing the investigations.

"I have no idea what Brig-Gen Qiliho is saying that there are some internal issues left after the DPP's release.

"There are no internal issues after the approval of resignation. He needs to get conversant with the force's policies."

In response, Brig-Gen Qiliho said he had nothing to do with the correspondence between Mr Brown and The Fiji Times.

He said there was nothing between him and Mr Brown and would not comment further.

Not only former Fiji police intelligence chief Henry Brown has no confidence in Police Commissioner Qiliho, nobody has confidence in him. Yeah. That is alarming.
Too many aimless and unskilled males around.

Those who are commiting those crimes were born in the 1990-1995 period mostly.
Now get this: the number of males born between 1995-2000 is larger than between 1990-1995.
And so on for 2000-2005, 2005-2010, etc.
The current trend will continue for some time unfortunately.

In USA, abortion lead to a sharp decrease in violent crimes about 20 years after it became legal. A large number of those criminals come from low socio economic backgrounds, and it is often the poorst and most vulnerable women who end up making all those xtra babies.
I believe Fiji is ready for abortion now.

Vili Rakoro,
"Think outside the box" is what you and Frank had been using during your budget maiden speech. Did you walk the talk after the budget deliberation. The doubtful $100m is still unknown and when asked the Finance Minister and AG gagged the Finance officials not to open their mouth. That's not thinking outside the box but "stealing from the box".
You are implying that "sleeping on the streets " is not only a solution for domestic crimes but a ' think outside the box item' .
Vili if you allow drunkards,ie, drunk women and drunk men, drunk youths both females and males to sleep on the streets what would the effect be on family, society and authorities. The effect is disaster tomorrow. Are you going to create a new generation of street lawlessness in Fiji where the number of rapes, thefts, vandalism, etc will skyrocket?
The idiot once again is making a fool of himself.

@6.06pm The introduction of birth control should be implemented by having a one or two child policie. This can help lower the poverty rates and socio economic burden of feeding large families. We have a large population for such a small country where roughly 30% to 40% live below the poverty line.A population growth that is unstable can lead to many environmental, political and economic problems such as pollution, crime, poverty, burden on healthcare system, public transport and an ever increasing usage of land to build roads for more automobiles etc etc.

Abortion is not only another alternative,Fiji can also be ready for euthanasia centres.Having euthanasia centres will help stabilise the country's population and boost our tourism industry just like how the Swiss rolled out Dignitas and contributed to its national economy.

Really not doing too well are you.

Ok, lets forget your drivel about the $100M, that's another subject that you seem to have picked out of the box but likely far too complicated for you.

So lets get down to basics but firstly go back and read the post at 8:39 AM. Like others you would have read.............

"A realist, but more to the point someone who has witnessed first hand the danger to the community that these drunks are when they return to their homes and communities in the early hours of the morning.

Yes it is PREFERABLE that these drunks remain on the streets in the towns, near the locations where they are fuelled with alcohol then the police can handle them far easier than if they are spread around."

Now have a look in a dictionary if you have access to one, and look up the word "preferable". Now answer this, does the word preferable mean "solution", here's a clue NO !

It's a good idea when you write about something to actually make the effort to understand what it says, whether you agree with it or not.

If you don't do this, making comments like your last sentence tends to backfire on you.

The Corrupt World
Last week we had the Fairfax Media and Huffington Post exposure of the shady dealings of Unaoil with its global reach and spread. At the start of this week we get the findings of the 12 month investigation by media groups including The Australian Financial Review, led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists ( ICIJ) in Washington into how Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca facilitated the dubious and devious financial dealings of the rich and powerful from around the world ( ' Panama Papers: ATO investigating more than 800 Australian clients of Mossack' by Neil Wenoweth, investigative reporter smh4/04, and ' The billion dollar trial that leads to Putin' new.com.au 4/04).
This only confirms we live in a corrupt world, a very corrupt world. No wonder the rich and powerful thrive in it. And, it also tells us why corrupt rulers do not want to relinquish power.
They want to stay in power to protect their ill- gotten wealth.
This variety of people exist in every country.
Fiji is no exception, it goes without saying.

The Icelandic prime minister who hid millions in offshore tax havens while the country's economy was going to the dogs ( Panama Papers) represents the modern day thieving political class who have no qualms about screwing their country and their fellow country men and the environment.
What is important to this thieving political class and their economic counterparts is that they can enjoy the luxuries and refineries of modern life without any hindrance and encumbrance .
They are they real low life' of the human species.

Keeping Secrets Secret
We learn from ' Panama Papers : China censors online discussion' ( BBC 4/04 ) that China appears to be censoring social media posts on the Panama Papers leak which has named several members of China's elite, including President Xi Jingping's brother in law.
That is hardly surprising.
That is what rogue rulers and their corporate cronies do : keep the lid on their corrupt dealings and get their henchmen to round up people who question them.
There is nothing communist about these communist leaders and elites except their repression of the people.

Casuality No.1 from Panama Papers leak.
The smh article ' Panama Papers scandal claims first scalp with PM's resignation'. 6/04 informs us that Iceland PM has resigned just days after walking out of a television interview when he was accused of hiding millions in offshore accounts and bombastically claiming he has not done anything wrong and will not resign.
The Panama Papers name 140 politicians, 12 former and current national leaders with dubious offshore transactions.
Who will be the next to say sayonara ?

Well Rajend, if those guys are able to leave office why is that our own are still thriving and not put to task. Fijileaks has done alot by exposing our corrupt leaders yet only few had been implicated and these are the small fries. The big ones are still at large. Samoa is on the news too which will be followed by other Pacific Islands, I guess. In Fiji, it's a little complex because very few are trusted. Those in power will continue to control and manipulate the system. They control govt, they hold the media, they own security, they are armed, they are the judiciary and they control people . So ,if this is what Fiji is all about, what else is there to report and who else can lead the 900,000 people to overpower these corrupt group. I thought FICAC is an independent body but it's only a lapdog and one of them.

THE leering and staring at women, girls and transwomen and making them feel like objects for consumption is common in Fiji, says One Billion Rising Fiji organising member Anji Naidu.

Ms Naidu said street harassment was another form of gender-based violence affecting many women in the country.

She said constant sexist remarks such as uro, chrabi, sexy, chalega, and gandu was increasing day by day.

"The callings out from a passing vehicle, the slight passing of men's hands on your body or the grabbing of the buttocks or breasts were forms of street harassment," Ms Naidu said.

She said masturbating to women in public spaces, whistling and singing was also common.

"These unsolicited comments, unwanted grabbing, leering and gestures of sexual nature is something that women and girls experience daily.

----

is there really a big issue of men masturbating to women in public spaces?

Vili Rakoro
Read April 6th-11.51am above. Message is for you.
It's not shocking because it's a norm today? Those committing these acts kept doing it because theres no law strict enough to implicate them. They did it because they saw it done to women and no one bothered . Women are not opened to discussion for some reason or reported it when it happened to them. This crime- street harassment is committed not at home but on the streets and in public where you advocated a preferable area for drunkards to sleep. Anyway where are the police? It ain't easy mate to round them up like you said. Sad that this reporting is from someone who had experienced first hand the BAD violence, sexual in nature on the streets in Fiji. Is the authority going to act decisively now ?
Sa vakamadua mai. Vili I know who you are going to blame next.

Corrupt Military Man
We read in Reuter's 5/04 article ' China accuses former top military official of taking massive bribes' that Gua Boxiong74 used his position as vice chairman of the powerful Central Military Commission to provide help for others in promotions, reassignments, and took a massive amount of bribe either directly or via his family.
Gua Boxiong was a " greedy degenerate" who would get what was coming to him, the defence ministry said in an online commentary.
I didn't know there were " greedy degenerates" in a disciplined military force.
But it's something one can believe. People in positions of power - whether it be political power, military power or corporate power - can abuse their power to profit themselves, their family and their cronies.
How many military wallahs in Fiji profited from the NBF scam?

Such a pity you fail to engage that pea sized brain of yours each time you attempt to be clever, and repeatedly fail.

Spend some time talking to many women and you will no doubt learn that the behaviour described in that article has little to do with the perpetrators being intoxicated, they are generally sober.

You sound like a farking dumb ass who would expect there to be law to even control how you clean your own backside.

@Nurse Vili, cleaning backsides is your profession and just one of the many duties that is part of the job description as a nurse who looks after the drunks. You know many in the community thank such volunteers and nurses such as yourself for the hard work for looking after the vulnerable during their high levels of intoxication of alcohol.Yes some patients can be very violent and abusive but at the end of it all, they are drunk and really need to start taking responsibility for themselves. That is where you can step in and can give them information on responsible drinking, reasonable consumption levels of alcohol, giving them the facts about alcohol such as health effects, effects it can have on family, friendships, relationships, your safety and underage drinking.Once you established this move you can further inform them on the serious matters such as alcohol and the law. From the legal age to purchase alcohol, drink driving penalties, drink driving and what the legal alcohol limit is,drinking alcohol in public place laws, connection with crime and alcohol such as assault, common assault gbh and abh, indecent assaults such as rape and groping, thefts and the spiking of drinks again this can come under people's safety when out at night.

You're filibustering on here about drunks sleeping on the streets but not putting any action into doing something about the problem itself. If you're fed up of seeing drunks sleeping on benches at bus stops or outside shops and churches then go to them and do something about it.The police already have so much on their hands that they operate under insufficient resources. They have to watch out on other cases such as robberies, gang brawls, drug trafficking, illegal black markets, traffic accidents and of course the administration paper work of endless amount of evidence gathering, long hours of quizing suspects and taking witnesses and victims statements, the duty of care under their custody whilst in remand.A drunk who is sleeping under the tree in a park or on a bench will probably be the last job number they will ever receive in their hard days of work in the line of duty to protect and serve its citizens because someone who is drunk and sleeping is not a major threat to the public and ranks low on the priority list compared to someone who is going equipped with a cane knife intend to commit aggravated robbery and house invasion.Discussing drunkards and calling someone pea brain is only going to get you running in circles. If you don't like your nursing role then quit and find something new that you will enjoy.

Law of the jungle
In his letter to the Age 7/04,Kevin Burke speaks for me as well when he writes " The Panama Papers tax scandal confirms my long held conviction that the driver of our capitalist culture is the rich and powerful to become even richer and more powerful to the inevitable detriment of the poor...That's why wealthy people and big business favour conservative politicians . They promote policies with minimal regulation, moving ever closer to the law of the jungle, which they exploit with abandon..."
I have written many times about how the rich and powerful get richer and more powerful in a world so STRUCTURED as ours and the poor get screwed.
I am not at all surprised by the rot of the rich and greedy as revealed by the Panama Papers leak.
Not even by the scale of it. Every country on planet earth producers its share of skunks and when you add them up they become a sizeable population of cheats.

The Passing of a Friend
It makes me very sad to learn that my long time friend from my days at the USP from 1974 Ropate Qalo has passed away. Ropate came a long way from a simple village boy growing up in a remote isolated village in Drekeniwai, Savusavu to be on the USP's academic staff until fairly recently. Ropate was always very passionate about Fiji politics and society and used his education and training as a scholar to contribute to the shaping of a better Fiji.
Ropate and I talked politics a lot, we drank a lot and we joked a lot ( with him being the master joke teller).
He will be missed greatly by his friends and family.
My heartfelt condolences to his wife Salote and family.
RIP, Bro.

6 55pm. Such a pity too. Can't accept the fact that what she's saying is across-the board and to society in general. Those committing these acts are either sober, intoxicated or drugged and do you think being intoxicated will deny anyone the chance to commit crime as sexual as this? That's pea(pee) thinking. Now it backfired. Intoxicated people are high risk at committing crimes of any kind.
Today Qiliho is issuing out a curfew for every soul to get off the streets. Anyone found is in violation and will be locked up. Since you're advocating sleeping on streets for drunkards and intoxicated, you should shut the fuck up because the land is on curfew. The moment you open your mouth to let those drunkards sleep again on the streets you're guilty of this violation. Naboro is waiting, the inmates are ready for a feast, yeah! because a nurse will be joining them.

If a young gay activist managed to put an end to the

Christopher Anderson, 41, sentenced to 12 years jail for girlfriend's murder. Mr Anderson stabbed Allira Green, 23, with a knife in a Maroubra unit. Ms Green died from the stab wounds in the early hours of August 3, 2013. Justice Peter Hall described stabbing as 'brutal, cowardly and inexcusable'. Yet...

Will A Paradigm Change Take Place in How we do Business Following the Panama Papers Leak?
This is what S P Dean wants to know in his letter to The Australian 6/04. He writes " Will the Panama Papers leak finally shame the world to take action?( ' Panama Papers reveal murky money flow' 5/04). All we have heard from our leaders so far have been words.
Perhaps we could start by declaring Panama, and the British Virgin Islands international pariahs. Britains's David Cameron has made a lot of noise about taking action against financial crimes, but many of the culprits are countries under the protection of the British crown".
I don't think any substantive change will happen. Entrenched interests that dominate and control the international financial system will not allow the status quo to be disturbed. After the initial loud noises everybody will get back to business as usual.
That's something that happens even when a country has a coup. After a period of ritual protestations everybody gets back to doing business as usual.
Correct if I am wrong.

Rape cases top the list of sexual activities
08:05 Today

Taken from/By: WEB
Report by: Savaira Tabua

Rape cases still tops the list of sexual offenses recorded and filed in the Courts last month and this is a concern to the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre(FWCC).

With the statistics provided by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali says this needs to be addressed at the earliest.

Out of the 53 separate incidents last month 35 were cases of rape, 2 of defilement, 2 cases of indecent assault and 14 were sexual assault cases.

“While we have the gender inequality about men’s sets of entitlement i believe and also easy access to pornography that this desensitised…..are young men and also women. Desensitised…them to all forms of activities around sex so there is no affection, there is no love and it’s just sex.”
18 victims were under the age of 18 in separate incidents and of that 18, 14 are victims of rape.

Sexual offences also occurred in workplaces and there are records of a police officer also involved. Five cases last month were withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.

47 year old behind bars for rape
12:51 Today

Taken from/By: WEB
Report by: Praneeta Prakash

A 47 year old father has been sentenced to 11 years imprisonment for raping his seven year old daughter while his wife was in the hospital to deliver a baby.

The court heard that between 1st January to 24th April, the accused and the victim were staying at a friend’s place in Lautoka while the victim’s mother was in the hospital expecting a baby when he committed the offence.

The accused threatened his daughter if she informed any one of the incident.

The seven year old informed her uncle about the incident who reported the matter to police.

Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge said the accused’s actions demonstrate a total disregard of clearly defined societal, religious and traditional norms that prohibit any kind of sexual relationship between father and daughter.

Justice Aluthge further said that the sentence must send a clear warning to the society and that the offender must be severely punished and be incarcerated to ensure that the younger generation is safe and secure in domestic environment.

The aggravating factors in this case was the age gap between the two which was nearly forty years and the accused used his authority over the victim and instilled fear in her to cover up for his offence.

The Lautoka High Court Judge has also imposed a non parole period of ten years.

A Sydney man who killed his pregnant girlfriend by stabbing her in the heart with a kitchen knife will spend at least 9½ years in jail.
Christopher John Anderson, 41, was jailed on Friday for a maximum of 12 years and nine months for the manslaughter of Allira Green, 23.Ms Green died from the stab wound in a Maroubra unit in the early hours of August 3, 2013.
Anderson, 41, pleaded guilty in the NSW Supreme Court in November last year to the manslaughter of Ms Green on the grounds of excessive self-defence.
However, Justice Peter Hall rejected the claims that Ms Green provoked the attack, and called the stabbing "an extreme and grossly excessive response".
The maximum jail term is 25 years.Justice Hall said that, while the stabbing wasn't premeditated, Anderson had limited prospects of rehabilitation and a history of violent assaults.
His criminal history included convictions for giving his ex-girlfriend a swollen eye, and his ex-girlfriend's father a broken arm.
Justice Hall said on Friday that domestic violence had increasingly become an issue of concern in Australia, and, quoting another judge, denounced such attacks as "brutal, cowardly and inexcusable".
He said Anderson would be eligible for parole in February 2023, after already serving time since the stabbing.
An agreed statement of facts tendered to the court last November said there had been "periods of volatility" in the relationship and Ms Green called police on two occasions in June 2013 to report domestic violence.
The facts also contained a record of dozens of text messages, some of them "heated", sent between the pair in the days and hours before Ms Green was killed. On July 27, 2013, Ms Green wrote: "You've pushed me too far now I've got 20 weeks to go and U start this shit. You shouldn't have touched me." Minutes later, on her way to the hospital in an ambulance, she wrote: "I hope I've lost this kid I really do bekoz that's the only way im gonna get U out of my life for good."Hundreds of text messages over the next few days oscillate between proclamations of love, name-calling, accusations of cheating, drug taking and claims the relationship was over.On July 29 Ms Green told Anderson she loved him: "1 love U so much babe. Im always gonna be here tho, jail or not. Me n your boy ain't going anywhere . 1 promise you id rather cut ny legs off then not have U in OUR life. Just try be more positive about court ok. 1 know you dont wanna leave me but if it comes to it we gotta be strong. For our babys sake."
On the afternoon of August 2, 2013, Ms Green visited a friend Louise Bodeker at a unit in Maroubra where she took ice and cannabis.

Anonymous said...

After midnight on August 3, Ms Green's friend Allira Holt drove to the unit to pick her up.
On arrival, she saw Anderson standing on a landing outside.
When he was asked to leave, he became angry and aggressive and said, "I'm going to get you."
A scuffle followed in which Ms Green, Ms Holt and Ms Bodeker fell to the floor.
Ms Green went to the kitchen and retrieved a knife, held it above her head and moved towards Anderson.
A brief struggle ensued and Anderson grabbed the knife from Ms Green and stabbed her in the chest. The wound was 15 centimetres deep."The offender did this believing his conduct was necessary to defend himself but accepts that it was not a reasonable response in the circumstances," the document states.Anderson left the unit and spoke to a friend, admitting he had consumed ice and anti-anxiety medication Xanax.Ms Green was 20 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. A post-mortem report found high levels of methylamphetamine, amphetamine, alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium) and the sedative nordazepam in her system.
Outside the court, Ms Green's mother Nadia Green-Simms said fear of her daughter being blamed was partly behind her acceptance of the plea of guilty to manslaughter.
"We're just hoping now justice prevails, you know, with domestic violence so rife out there now," she said.
"This was a case of domestic violence to me - I've been in this field a long time and I just want the justice that my daughter and my grandson deserves."I'm just glad now that, yes, we have accepted this plea. We're not happy but at least we know he's admitted to something and my daughter can rest in peace now."
Ms Green-Simms described her daughter as "an amazing girl" who "lit up the room".
"We all knew she had a problem in the past. We helped her, she tried, she was trying so hard, she was so happy that she was pregnant, we supported her through that."
She said she would never forgive Anderson for killing her daughter.
"That anger will never go away I don't think, I will never forgive him, never ever will I forgive him."

What John Richardson ( CT 7/04) says about Aussie politicians is so true about the ruling elite elsewhere.
He says " ... Why do our politicians think that they can shamelessly lie, deceive and cheat the entire nation, sanction the most heinous behaviour against the most defenceless, while enriching themselves from the public purse, and still expect anyone to listen to, let alone respect their hypocritical, self- righteous lectures? Bah humbag!"
I think most of us can relate to what Richardson is saying.

Jill Meaghers killer was on parole even though he had been convicted of raping several women. Perhaps you are implying with your report that because she had taken drugs she was somehow to blame? Or that domestic violence is ok? Or that because it was not premeditated, it was ok? have you even read the report on Daily Mail? @5.02pm
You had to resort to name calling which pretty much shows your lack of intelligence when communicating. A psychologist would easily pass you off as someone that is anti social. You’re typical Daily Mail reader, highly sensitive and emotional beating ones chest and nostrils huffing and puffing. The only way they can get their way is through display of childish tantrums and aggressive behaviour.

“I agree loads of crap on DM is sensationalist and over the top...”
Well it’s good you agree to the fact that the DM is all about sensationalising reports but here’s another fact its journalism is based on a will of manipulating, scare mongering, deceiving and lying to its audiences. This is a paper that is anti human rights, anti intellectualism, anti liberalism, anti working class, promotes fascism and totalitarianism and gossipy journalism for wing nuts who cannot think for themselves and digest serious news.

No wonder the mass population has championed it the Daily Moan, Hate Mail and the Daily whingeing Pom (as it is British owned).Even their own British public despise its reporting and is the second worst gutter press after the Sun.

“Perhaps you are implying with your report that because she had taken drugs she was somehow to blame? Or that domestic violence is ok? Or that because it was not premeditated, it was ok? have you even read the report on Daily Mail?”

Hahahahahahhaa oh what’s this provocative questions again how very typical and classic of a DM reader to spin the subject at hand. In no way was I trying to advocate domestic violence was ok and a social norm, neither taking drugs was the blame for her behaviour and the final result. The issue is about Australian criminal justice system, the offences that the offender is convicted of and accurate detailed reporting.

“Yeah that's right, becos you are smart? Dickhead”
It’s because not “becos” hahahahahahhahahahahaha.

Now go do your research on Australian law and its legal system especially on the emphasis of criminal justice, criminal law, criminal trials and convictions and criminal procedure.

The Panama Leaks surely is the tip of an iceberg. This thing has been going on for 40+years. That brave whistle-blower who leaked this secret money laundering scheme is a saint. Most of the proceedings were legal by law according to the report but who makes the law to legalize it? It's obviously the same group themselves because of their powerful position in Govt and society .
While they evade taxes WE the descent workers were made to pay up or face the law. The greedy biches! Resignation is not enough, they have to face the full brunt of the law.
This is another reason why world market price is a one way route...UP and poor descent hardworking people have to pay more and struggle to survive for many years. I thought the age of slavery is past. No. It's still present today.
The British Islands (Isle of man, Channel Islands, etc ) are safe havens and it's about time that those hiding their accumulated funds are brought to justice. Well not all of them.
