Frank Bainimarama has nominated his Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations for the position.
He described Jioji Konrote as "one of Fiji's most outstanding and decorated military officers" who "has been awarded with numerous awards and decorations during his illustrious career".
According to s84(3) Fiji's illegal constitution, voting for a new President is done through a secret ballot in Parliament. If this is the case, then Fiji First already has enough numbers to vote Konrote in.
The Opposition Party had nominated Ratu Epeli Ganilau but Bainimarama would have wanted someone who is detached and doesn't have the power to call on the vanua to uprise against the democratically elected regime.
In his first speech after being appointed Minister, Konrote said young graduates should go back to the village and plant cassava!

That's a very good question and is far more pertinent than the 'short skirt' debate.
I would suggest basically because the women have sat back for so long allowing themselves to be controlled by men, and I'm not saying through choice.
The church has always pushed that women are there purely to satisfy men in respect to marriage and child bearing. Their purpose has always been to provide these necessities to continue to populate the world and in between to undertake the basic tasks of looking after the home.
This is supported by the fact that most populations that are obsessed by religion consider women as second class.

A 44-year-old man charged for the alleged rape of a child appeared at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court yesterday.
The accused, Filipe Tuisawau Koroinibau Wai Kepa, is charged with three counts of rape contrary to section 207 of the Crimes Decree 2009 and one count of pornographic activity contrary to section 62 of the Juveniles (Amendment) Act 1997.
He is alleged to have raped the child on different occasions between 2013 and 2015 and allegedly participated in recording of activity directly and or indirectly involving a juvenile

A 42-year-old man, who allegedly raped his 16-year-old son, appeared in the Labasa Magistrates Court yesterday.
He appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon.
He allegedly committed the offence last weekend in his Savusavu home when his wife was away in Nadi.
The victim, a secondary school student, ran to his neighbour seeking safety. The neighbour then reported the matter at the Savusavu Police Station.
Labasa Police Prosecutor Constable Nilesh Prasad informed the court that it was a serious offence and the case would be referred to the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions office.
Magistrate Thennakoon ordered that the man be further remanded in police custody as he was transferring this case to High Court of Labasa, where the accused will appear on October 27.

THE Western Division recorded the highest suicide cases in the country totalling about 170 cases since last year.
This was revealed by Youth Champs 4 Mental Health secretary, Pene Nakaora during an interview, saying such issues were not as serious in the North as they were in the West.
Mr Nakaora said the West topped the suicide list in the country.
"This is a serious issue because most of the suicide victims are young people," he said.
"Since the organisation's inception in 2008 suicide has always been an issue to address with young people." Mr Nakaora said they were conducting discussion forums around the country to improve mental health services and making them friendlier.
"Majority of the youths we spoke to in the past, whether they are friends of deceased comrades or survivors of suicide, have cited relationship problems as the major cause of suicide among young people," he said.
90% of those committing suicide are Kai Dia. The reason why Suicide is very high with Kai Dia is for a number of reasons;
1. Pressure from family to succeed in education.
2. Pressure from family to succeed with high marks.
3. Mental issues
4. Sexual issues
5. Family lack of tolerance of change in times. Indians have very strong religious and traditional values and want their women to be dressed from head to toe in sari. Short mini skirts, tights and revealing outfits are causing anxiety amongst traditionalist.
6. Dowry - Girls prefer to marry out of Love then be handed over to a dickhead who could not pick up a girl and gets one for free from the girls parents.

44-year-old, Ro Filipe Kepa who is facing three counts of rape and one count of pornographic activity relating to offences allegedly committed against a 17-year-old, remains in custody.
Kepa was granted bail Tuesday afternoon however he needs to get a reliable surety and pay his bail of $500 and bond of $500 before he is released from custody.
Fijivillage has received confirmation that Kepa will remain in custody again tonight as the surety did not turn up with sufficient funds to pay the $1,000.
Kepa cannot reside in Sigatoka according to the bail conditions.
He allegedly raped the 17-year-old on three different occasions between 2013 to 2015.
Fijivillage has received information that Kepa is also under investigation for other alleged rape cases.
A number of videos were allegedly discovered in his hard drive which was recovered by police during the investigation.
Meanwhile Principal Administrative Officer for the Opposition Office, Mick Beddoes said Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa will not make any comments at this stage.

Update: 3:38PM THE Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde has concluded that there is no substance to the complaint by Tevita Ralulu against the Commissioner of Police, Ben Groenewald.
Mr Ralulu had complained that Mr Groenewald had interfered with investigations into an incident involving a South African diplomat or that he had attempted to defeat or obstruct the course of justice.
A statement by the DPP said the Police Commissioner was empowered under the Constitution to control and direct the operations of the Police Force.
"The Police Commissioner therefore was well within his constitutional powers and the law to direct his officers to release the South African suspect from custody since the suspect was entitled to diplomatic immunity under Article 29 of the Vienna Convention as reflected in Fiji's Diplomatic and Privileges Act 1971," Mr Pryde said.

Police in Delhi say they have arrested two teenagers for allegedly raping a toddler, in the latest incident of sexual violence against a young child in the Indian capital.
Top police officer Dependra Pathak said police had questioned more than 250 residents of the western Delhi neighbourhood where the two-year-old girl was raped and left bleeding in a park on Friday night.
In a separate incident, police on Saturday arrested three men for raping a five-year-old in an east Delhi suburb.

The poor boy is a victim of his mother never wanting to acknowledge him as her son. He was brought up by the Turaga Nakalevu in Nadroga, and hidden from public eye for much of his life! The way I see it...Sodelpa is trying so hard to ignore this latest mess and the Opposition Leader His Mother is in fact on tour in the North. Since he was arrested, she has not even been to see him!
