Bainimarama continues to chase votes as Al Nusra threaten to try captured troops

No RFMF officers have gone to Golan since troops were captured.
The Syrian rebel group linked to Al Qaeda, Al Nusra, has threatened to try the captured 45 Fiji peacekeepers by Sharia law.

Reports from Israel citing the London-based Arab daily, Ashark Alawsat, say the missing troops will be tried unless rebel demands are met.

Al Nusra want humanitarian aid distributed around Damascus,
Bainimarama chases votes while troops missing
compensation for the death of three of its people last week during intensive fighting with Filipino soldiers, and the removal of its name from the United Nation's list of terrorists.

The Times of Israel says the UN has called on countries of influence to press the Al Qaeda insurgents to release the peacekeepers.

The 15 council members have endorsed a press statement after a briefing by UN peacekeeping chief, Herve Ladsous, but there has been no acknowledgement by Al Nusra.

Intel sources say the rebel group has refused to talk with the UN team because its demands haven't been met and it's feared the insurgents is likely to execute at least one Fiji soldier under Sharia law to make its point.

Teleni: Golan bound?
C4.5 has been told former police minister, Esala Teleni, is flying in to Suva tomorrow from China and will volunteer to travel to the Golan Heights, if no one from camp is prepared to make the trip as they should've done a week ago.

This is a huge remiss and will surely hurt  Frank Bainimarama, who continues to pretend he had nothing to do with the fate of the men as he cuddles up with children and old men to win votes.

QEB has also gone quiet with a very stressed-looking RFMF commander, Mosese Tikoitoga, today not making any statements about the missing soldiers.

Tikoitoga yesterday criticised former coup leader and prime minister, Colonel Sitiveni Rabuka, for suggesting Fiji's Muslims could face a backlash if the soldiers are harmed. Police are investigating.

Rabuka: accused of inciting racial tension.
Rabuka has been quoted as saying, "If anything happen to the 45, then the unsuspecting and probably undeserving people who will bear the brunt of the feelings could be the Muslim civil society and community in Fiji."

He has since said he was calling for 'strong and compassionate leadership.'

Demands are meanwhile growing for an investigation to help establish the facts surrounding the surrender of the Fiji soldiers and their subsequent capture while the Filipino contingent fought the rebels and either escaped or were rescued.

Editor's Note: Critics have tried to reject our story about the troops calling Israel for help saying it was impossible for them to have done so.

The call was certainly made: every Fiji unit in a mission has a direct hotline to their landforce at QEB and can also contact the mobile numbers or the landlines of seniors, with the help of signals unit of the army.

The Phillipines Defense Forum is also the official forum for the country's defense force, so is a credible source of information.

We have also been assured India's Lt Gen, Iqbal Singh Singha, ordered the surrender of Filipino units only after the the Fijian units had already surrendered.

Speaking of trying to change the subject, it's easy to see that Fiji First is getting desperate. No longer content with casting anonymous racial and religious slurs in order to divide the electorate whilst pretending Frank is a great unifier, they're now casting aspersions on the private sex life of sixty-plus year-old Ro Teimumu. Anything to try to distract us!

Whenever the Clarendon House trolls are out in force, that means the regime is in damage control mode. That's pretty often, thanks to the recklessness of the regime. It's like a barometer. One can use it to gauge the fortunes of Fiji First. Given the many trolls suddenly re-appearing on this blogsite, that fortune must be plummeting.

I don't know why they're so worried. Don't they trust Aiyaz to fix the elections so that Fiji First wins, no matter what? I sure do.

Don't they trust the Fiji Sun polls that purport to show that FFP is far ahead in popular support? Sure, each poll shows SODELPA's support doubling, but it could double again by election time, and STILL FFP would come out the winner by an absolute majority, if the Fiji Sun is to be believed.

Well, okay, in this case, no one can blame them for not trusting the Sun. Nobody else does.

I was never an SDL supporter, but I know Ro Teimumu very well. She is a strong, wise, caring, humble and gracious woman. She would make a great prime minister for Fiji at this time.

I don't know how sexually active she was when she was younger, and I don't really care. I don't think for one moment that Frank is the world's first totally monogamous sailor, either, but again, I really don't care. If they were boffing each other, I really don't care, so long as it was before Frank committed his treason.

That's because the central issue in this election is Frank's treason. It's whether we should ratify Frank's serial treason, giving him a free pass for every crime he's ever committed and every crime he ever WILL commit.

To me, it's just preposterous that anyone would freely support such a proposition. To do so, they would become traitors in their own right.

Frank's treason is the main issue. His thuggery, incompetence, stupidity, arrogance, greed, etc. are valid concerns but remain side-issues, ultimately. His treason is an absolute disqualifier for any elected office or position of trust. The question ought not to be whether he is elected or not; it should be whether he deserves to hang for his crimes or his sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

The reason the regime trolls are so active at present is undoubtedly because of the Syrian hostage crisis and the horrendous failure of leadership it shows on the part of the regime — not just how badly prepared our troops were before being sent but the stupidity of the regime's "open legs" foreign policy and the callous disregard of our self-appointed leaders regarding the possible repercussions their actions and statements could have on this very sensitive situation.

Try as the trolls might to distract us, it won't work. That's because the growing prospect of Fijian soldiers having their heads lopped off due to a string of bad command decisions will surely bring back our attention.

Modern-Day Slavery: India’s Other Shame
Study: India accounts for nearly half of the world’s slaves.

Of the estimated 29.8 million people living in modern slavery worldwide, nearly half are in India. This harrowing statistic comes from the 2013 Global Slavery Index, published by Australia’s Walk Free Foundation. It is the first comprehensive index of global slavery, covering 162 countries, and defining slavery as:

“The possession and control of a person in such a way as to significantly deprive that person of his or her individual liberty, with the intent of exploiting that person through their use, management, profit, transfer or disposal. Usually this exercise will be achieved through means such as violence or threats of violence, deception and/or coercion.”

The per-country rankings are estimated using three variables – a composite estimate of the number of people in slavery, an estimate of the level of human trafficking from and into each country, and an estimate of the prevalence of child marriages. The first annual Global Slavery Index draws on 10 years of research and is endorsed by the likes of Hillary Clinton, Tony Blair, Bill Gates and Richard Branson.

India topped the list with a staggering 13.9 million estimated slaves, most of whom are “Dalits” (sometimes referred to as “untouchables”) – members of India’s lowest caste. China ranked a very distant second, with 2.9 million. Pakistan came in third, with 2.1 million. No other countries on the list broke into the millions.

In a country that has been overwhelmed by recent media reports of violent – sometimes deadly – gang rapes and a seemingly complete disregard for women’s rights, India is reeling from yet another national disgrace.

“Sixty-six years after independence, India has the dubious distinction of being home to half the number of modern day slaves in the world,” reported The Times of India. “The study says that in India there's some exploitation of foreign nationals, but by far the largest proportion of slaves are Indians exploited by other Indians within the country, particularly through debt bondage and bonded labor.”

“Meet the world’s Number 1 slaveholder: India” read a headline on The First Post. “It’s a shameful statistic. The report is going to raise hackles in India. It will be perceived as another way for the West to lord it over us,” the article continued.

The figures from the Walk Free Foundation are actually lower than estimates by the U.S. State department’s Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, which assesses human trafficking and forced labor.

“The [2013] TIP report released by the U.S. State department had put the number of people in some sort of forced labor at an estimated 20 to 65 million : men, women, and children mainly in debt bondage to a local landowner, forced to work in industries such as brick kilns, rice mills, agriculture, and embroidery factories,” said Hindustan Times. “The TIP report cites instances where women and girls from the northeastern states and Odisha have been sold or coerced into forced marriages in states with low female-to-male gender ratios, including Haryana and Punjab and forced into prostitution.”

Although India ranked first for the total number of estimated slaves, it ranked fourth per capita – behind Mauritania, Haiti and Pakistan. Iceland, Ireland and the U.K. make a three-way tie for having the fewest number of slaves.

By the definition of the Global Slavery Index, Fiji should rank at or near the top of the list of slave countries on a per capita basis.

Bainimarama controls us in such a way as to significantly deprive us of our individual liberty, with the intent of exploiting us through our use, management, profit, transfer or disposal (as in the case of our expendable soldiers now held captive). And, as is customary, this exercise was achieved through violence or threats of violence, deception and/or coercion.

Like nearly 8 million Chinese youths between 1967 and 1976, the main character, Xiu Xiu was "sent down" for specialized training. Xiu Xiu dreamt of becoming a horse trainer in the plains of Tibet, far away from her city home. Her training begins in the camp of an odd, mysterious man. Their relationship develops slowly because Xiu Xiu believes she will be sent home at the end of her training. Eventually, Xiu Xiu realizes she will never see her parents, siblings and friends ever again without a wealthy sponsor. Her life becomes a horrifying cage, where corrupt government officials promise her release in exchange for sexual favors. How Xiu Xiu eventually escapes is a fascinating look at compassion, desperation and love.

Film Background

Directed by Joan Chen. The movie is based on an award winning novella, "Tian Yu" by Yan Geling, which was banned in China. The novella was banned for politcal and sexual content.

Point Of View

A powerful, evocative film with stunning depictions of the Chinese landscape. A compelling plot complete with interesting twists and turns. Not a light hearted frivolous film for an evening of chilling out. This is a movie for those moments when you want to beswept away into the human condition complete with all of its horror, tenderness, poignant ironies, and compassion.

Never mind if she's a slut or not, we now know that the warrior queen is a snivelling lamusona. Fancy challenging Bainimarama to a debate and then pulling out when he says yes. Unbelievable cowardice! It has has sealed her fate. Frank has won the election.

Anonymous said...

Reading the papers this morning, it looks like the other queen, Jesse Sikivou, advised Ro Teimumu that appearing with the PM was too big a risk. As the Sun front page says. "What is she afraid of?". Plenty, it seems. Because what idiot would issue a challenge in the first place if they had no intention of proceeding? Now she looks weak and pathetic and the whole country knows she hasn't got the guts to face the PM on TV. Sikivou should be sacked but it's too late now. She can hardly change her mind without looking like a complete fool. I was going to vote SODELPA but bugger that. I want to vote for someone with spine, not a jellyfish lamusona. God help us if this is the quality of the alternative in Fiji. I guess she'll still get her seat in parliament and a fat salary and crap on about the same old things. A complete waste of space as well as being a husband thief. No wonder the chiefs are in trouble.

Here's why said...

Why did she back out? Because she is terrified of her sordid private life becoming an issue at the last minute in the campaign and of Frank being able to make her look foolish by demolishing all her lies.

IDF got the Irish Battalion out of a jam late last week averting another hostage crisis/ shootout between al Nusra and the UNDOF.

=================================
By MICHELLE MALKA GROSSMAN, YAAKOV LAPPIN
Jerusalem Post

07/09/2014 19:04

Senior sources told the "Irish Independent" that Israeli soldiers provided "decisive" help in preventing another hostage situation.

Irish UN troops "almost certainly" would have been killed or taken hostage during fighting last week if it were not for Israeli soldiers saving them, senior sources told the Irish Independent on Sunday.

The crisis would likely have been similar to the ongoing hostage situation with Filipino and Fijian UN troops in the buffer zone along the Syrian border. The Philippines' soldiers managed to escape into safety in Israel, while the 44 soldiers from Fiji still remain in captivity.

The senior sources said Israeli soldiers, who have guard posts overlooking the UN demilitarization zone in Quneitra, provided "decisive" help to the Irish UN soldiers in the area.

The IDF soldiers helped guide UN rescue troops away from al-Nusra forces in the area.

On August 28, terrorists from the al-Nusra front, the Syrian wing of al-Qaida, captured 72 UN troops from the Philippines and 44 UN troops from Fiji. The Filipino troops managed to escape into safety in Israel.

Al-Nusra is threatening to put the Fijian soldiers on trial under Islamic Shari’a law unless a series of demands are met, including the group's removal from the UN's list of global terror organizations, and monetary compensation for members killed in fighting.

According to IDF assessments, Al Nusra Front fighters make up a third of the 2000 rebels that have taken control of the Quneitra region. Al Nusra's members are unlikely to target Israel soon, the army estimates.

Last week, a senior IDF officer said, "We provided all of the assistance we could to the United Nations Disengagement and Observation Force (UNDOF)." He stressed that no Israeli soldier crossed the border into Syria.

The Al-Nusra Front poured into the Syrian Golan Heights in recent weeks after being pushed away from eastern Syria by its rival, the Islamic State, thereby upsetting the balance of rebel groups that had previously dominated the Quneitra region and Dara'a.

"Now we see them deployed along the Israeli border. But we don't think they're about to target Israel. They conquered old Quneitra, and the border crossing, together with other rebels. Nearly all of the border between Syria and Israel is under the control of a variety rebel groups," the source added.

"Al-Nusra has said their war is against the Syrian regime, but that when they are done, the turn of the Jews will come. We are preparing," the officer said.

All of the rebels groups are armed with a large range of weapons, including light arms, explosives, mortars, artillery, armored personnel carriers, and tanks. Some include ex-Syrian soldiers in their ranks who know how to operate the weapons.

Israel is continuing to accept injured Syrians, irrespective of their affiliation, for humanitarian medial treatment in Israeli hospitals.

Irish were ambushed. They were travelling in their Mowags and used their 12.7mm guns to blast their way out of the ambush.

One of their Mowags got hit with an IED and had its wheel blown off.

They debussed and engaged al Nusra before being picked up by the rest of the patrol and exited under IDF directions from over te border

Anonymous said...

One of the Irish guys suffered injuries in that contact.

Anonymous said...

They drove into a prepared ambush.

Both sides of the road were mined with IED's.

One of their MOWAGS ran off the road executing a J turn and hit the prepared IED blowing off its rear wheel.

al Nusra put down heavy fire on the kill zone

The Irish just turned their 12.7mm's outwards and let go.

Ro Teimumu has pulled off the debate because Baini did not come the last time, remember?

3 engagements in the last two weeks.

Two with the Filipino's and one with the Irish

The Filipino's and the Irish are well prepared troops and defended themselves and came out of the engagements okay.

Just shows that it comes down to the vetting and preparation of troops, and now raises a serious question whether our boys were vetted and prepared for that Golan mission ?

Notice how there are all these diversions about Irish peacekeepers to try to drown out the only news that matters - Ro Teimumu is a tamani sized LAMUSONA!

Yes, I noticed that. Pathetic. But what else can SODELPA do? And what happens if the hostages are freed and everything ends happily ever after? What do they do then? They are so frigging stupid. No hopers as well as queens.

Anonymous said...

Those Irish Mowags have 30 mm guns in addition to the 12.7mm's.

The Irish Government provided the equipment for their troops last April after the Yarmouk brigade started operations in the UNDOF area.

The Irish, as the Filipino's read the strategic environment and the battlefield and their Military Commanders and Government prepared them accordingly

I'd rather vote for an adulterer than a murderer. Murder is a more serious despicable act than adultery and is an illegal offence punishable by death in many states, unless, if we adopt sharia law wherein adultery also becomes an offence punishable by stoning to death.
Bhai and Khai want to bring in sharia law into Fiji.

Anonymous said...

Under heavy engagement with al Nusra, in the span of the last two weeks, both the Filipino's and the Irish have shown how well they were prepared and provisioned for the mission in the Golan.

The Irish fought their way out of a prepared ambush and the Filipino's fought their way out of a siege.

Our boys were skyping and having a birthday party with nurses and female officers on Wednesday night as the al Nusra advance team recced position 27.

And at first light, as they were getting out of bed, our boys were encircled by the al Nusra main force and subdued.

Position 27 has surveillance cameras but it seems no one was watching the monitors on Wednesday night. They were busy partying

Trying to focus on Ro Teimumu's personal weakness is conveniently trying to hide the weakness of this illegal regime in its failure to get our soldiers released from their captivity.

This illegal regime has failed the people of Fiji. Let's vote it out.

This is very similar to how the Tongan Marines undertook an exfiltration op and came deep into Fijian waters to extract Roko Ului off the coast of Kadavu whilst our Navy base monitors at Walu Bay were asleep.

The Irish and Flipino soldiers fought their way out to freedom. The Fijian soldiers slumbered their way in to captivity.

Sort of like what they did to us here in Fiji.

The Israeli Times has a piece published last week which questions the preparation of our Fijian troops for these UN mission and specifically UNDOF given the changed situation on the ground in that area.

We need to consider this issue seriously. Its a policy issue which now goes to the heart of the availability of UN missions for Fiji as related to our capacity to undertake those missions.

Its observation post which means that there are supposed to be eyes always looking over that area of responsibility of position 27 non stop 24/7.

There is a logbook where incidents are recorded and where movements of armed elements recorded, including aircraft which fly over the position.

The men are taught to know the types of aircraft flying past and to record those details.

The men are taught to know the types of weaponry being used and record those details.

And the CO has access to on going Intelligence about the whole of the UNDOF areas from top to bottom and access to the details of reports from the positions around him, including sit reps.

If an Observation Post has been caught unawares and taken over by encirclement then there are questions whether there was any observation being done at all from that post ?

Fiji's regime-controlled media will not report al-Nusra's demand that Bainimarama resign or his soldiers will die. Nonetheless, all across the Middle East and Fiji, the same thing is on people's mind. They're thinking of Bainimarama and asking:

Got rope?

Anonymous said...

They must have been busy observing each other get grog doped...and were unaware that Al-Nusra was observing them, observing each other, which therefore lead to the surrounding terrain being unobserved.

Anonymous said...

No one will want to recruit RFMF for peacekeeping missions. This was an observation mission where they were so unobservant that they were captured unawares by a group of terrorists. This is an army that was sworn to protect the government and Constitution of Fiji.

Need I say more?

That ambush against the Irish last week is an indication of al Nusra's intent.

They now see UNDOF as combatants in that area.

And that is bad news for us because it ties in with (and explains) their announcement that our boys will be tried under Sharia law as combatants.

And it also explains why they have closed off all channels of communications with the UN on the issue of the Fijian prisoners.

People should understand why this government are doing all these left, right, centre for instance upgrading roads, handouts, etc, for Fiji because it has no opposition to challenge them. In a democratic government you won’t see this happening because there will be lots of opposition since a lot of money are involved here.

THIS SHOULD BE A GOOD ARGUMENT POINT FOR SODELPA & OTHER PARTIES

Al Nusra Front Captures Israel-Syria Border Crossing

Israel Daily News Stream

2. The Al-Qaeda affiliated Al Nusra Front captured the Israeli-Syrian border crossing at Quneitra. The Times of Israel reports that an IDF officer was moderately injured by a stray bullet. Several mortars landed in Israeli territory.

The IDF said it had not determined whether the mortars were fired into Israel intentionally or were a spillover from fighting between rival factions on the Syrian side of the border.

What is FijiSun Afraid Of? said...

When VB failed to appear with Ro Teimumu for their debate few weeks back, Fiji Sun and FBC did not even mention it.

Edwin Nand never even mentioned this in his interview with the Marama and outsiders would have never known that VB was supposed to attend until the Marama uttered her disappointment with his absence!

One wonders why there was no mention.

Could it be that FBC is afraid of criticizing VB or being biased? Or is it that FBC is being BOTH biased and afraid?

Like all things I would think that this comes down to self-censorship still being practiced in the media despite all the protestations of the AG to the contrary.

And if anything the Fiji Sun and the other media companies are the cowards here for not publishing anything critical of govt. The closest the media come is when the opposition figures give their interviews then would the public even hear something critical of Govt.

Any reasonable person would be hard pressed to find any news piece that is critical of Govt, but critical pieces of the opposition abound. This gives Govt an unfair advantage and I hope the international observers and voters take note.

VB never even had the courtesy to decline outright for that debate with the Marama but make excuses for his cowardice. A cowardise that was then repeated in Golan to all of Fiji's shame, not just for Govt.

Now that the Marama declines to attend (which is more than I can say for VB's excuses for the first debate), Fiji Sun decides that it is newsworthy!

This is a clear example of self-censorship and media bias and this Govt needs to be voted out.

Since a few of you have answered my question as best as you can here is my response. Your way of life started disappearing the day you gave up wearing leaves and walking around half naked. You started loosing your culture the day you started eating bread. In essence the Fijian way of life as you knew it is over. All you seem to have is a half attempt at holding on to some things like your dances and your language. The fact is you live in the 21st century and no one i repeat no one in this world has escaped modernization. Your children one to look like black rock hip hop stars. Your ladies spent thousands trying to get their hair straight. My point is their are certain things in the i-taukei culture that you may just may be able to save but the rest you have already lost. I attended a completely i-taukei school and hence know a lot of the i taukei protocols and cultural values. Sadly i do not see these things anymore. In fact i probably know more about your cultural values than most of you so called proud i-taukei do.The world is moving too fast for some of you Dinosaurs . We are heading towards a paradigm shift in the way we humans live. Soon robots will be doing open heart surgery and we will be colonizing Mars and yet all you i-taukei are worried about is the freaking land which no one will take from you and the tit bits of your so called culture that you have destroyed yourself. You see only the custodian of a culture can destroy it no one else can. You choose to live like the west. You choose to love watching rugby on television which also shows programs like Groove Thang from which your children learn to emulate the stars. No one has taken anything from you except you. You see fella you cannot have your cake and eat it too. You cannot enjoy the things the Western world has to offer and than pick and choose want you want to keep from the ideology of the West which is equal values for all and democracy in it pure form without caveats. You don't want us Indians here that's fine. We all have family abroad in Aus NZ and The US. Get your party to win the elections and than force them to declare that you wish to no longer have the Indian community live here.We are just waiting for your leaders to say that. We will get refugee status visa's and leave. The question for you fellas is this what happens after the main economic engine of Fiji shuts down.

So where was FijiSun with its news article about VB not attending the first debate with Ro Teimumu on 4 the Record?

Where was FijiSun's criticism about Govt not releasing its AG reports?

Where was FijiSun's criticism about VB bailing Francis Kean out of jail and awarding him with a top Govt job?

The answer to all this is No, nada, nothing!

Why? Because FijiSun is AFRAID of VB, just like any other news organisation in Fiji.

FijiSun should be the last news organisation to call Ro Teimumu afraid because it will never publish anything critical of Govt.

That is SHAMEFUL and I hope voters and the international observers note that so far as media coverage about Fiji's elections is concerned, it is FijiSun and the media in general that is AFRAID!

If this turns out to be right Bainimarama will have to learn how to say please and to listen to other people, because there’s no way he can become PM without support from at least one of other party. 45% of the vote gives him 22 or 23 seats in parliament, with the other seats probably split between SODELPA, NFP and FLP and PDP. @The question for you fellas is this what happens after the main economic engine of Fiji shuts down.

1. Easy, get the Australians and Kiwi's. They don't have bad intentions. They are are easy to work with. They are more honest. They have hotels and definitely they will create shopping centers and not temple.

2.Get the Chinese. They don't mingle with local politics. More smarter. They have more money then the Indians. More open not reserved and cunning.

3. Get all other nationalities. They don't intervene with our indigenous issues. More easier to mingle with and not too reserve like Indians. They respect the indigenous rights.

4. Get the Americans. They have more money. They are more advanced then the Indians.

5. Definitely the lost of the Indians will be a big positive to the locals who will definitely work hard to ensure their economy is stronger.

6. At the end we have more jobs for ourselves if you people leave.

The list goes on and on...

Word everywhere is that Fiji First is in for a very nasty surprise. Elections in Fiji have always had nasty surprises for the presumptious pretenders. Civil servants and the wide public sector employees are just fed up of having to sing the tune of this lying, thieving and murderous regime. PSs and CEOs of key public institutions were clearly instructed to talk up the performances of their respective areas like Finance, FNPF, RBF and FRCA. These guys would normally not do this propaganda, for professional reasons. Word is some of them had to come to this compromise because they refused to join FF as candidates and instead suggested doing the propaganda from inside, hoping that it will give more credibility to the regime's performance. But people are not stupid. Indians (Hindu and Muslim) now realize that to vote for FF will prolong their ordeal and increase the pain since all trust and goodwill have been broken. The Syrian saga is a game changer, because the army realizes that they will be forgiven and accepted by the mainstream Taukei parties, who in fact are the only ones expressing genuine concern for their plight. Fiji First is isolating itself from the Army and leaving them to answer to all issues raised in the public. No one from the regime has ever been seen to be responding to the 45 saga with Tikoitoga, poor guy. Vote for FLP/NFP/SODELPA/OneFiji or anyother party or candidate but NOT Fiji First Party. A vote for Fiji First is a vote for ruin and pain in the near future when their entire charade falls apart. Taukei, Indians, Chinese, Kai Loma, Rotumans lets unite and vote anyone but Fiji First. Our only hope for a brighter, stable and prosperous future lies in getting FF Party out.

No oppositionist should be so foolish as to debate Frank on FBC News.

With Khaiyum's brother running FBC News, and FBC News hosting the debate, Frank would be made to look like a brilliant debater. FBC News could hurl tough questions at the opposition candidates but serve up soft pitches to the dictator. And unlike the other candidates, Frank would know the questions in advance. Qorvis would write recommended answers for him, based on voter demographics and tested on focus groups. FBC News and Qorvis would rehearse the answers with Frank in the days before the debate. FBC News might even be able to rig it so that Frank gets his own camera angle that includes a teleprompter, allowing him to read his answers from a carefully prepared script, in such a way that he appears to be speaking knowledgably, fluently and extemporaneously whilst looking directly into the camera. FBC News and regime spin doctors would then have a televised panel discussion directly afterwards at which they extol Frank's "amazing" performance. And the Fiji Sun will tell us the next day how Frank "won" the debate.

Sound fair to you? It isn't meant to be.

The opposition candidates should NOT allow themselves to fall in such a trap by accepting an invitation to debate proffered by FBC News.

But what SHOULD they do, given that the frightened regime won't even allow groups like the Citizens Constitutional Forum to host a debate?

It seems to me that the best recourse is for the political parties to arrange the debate amongst themselves. Each should nominate a representative to join with the others in making the arrangements.

This goes to the heart of a more general issue. The opposition parties need to stop being so docile and pliant in the face of the treason organising against Fiji under the stolen banner of Fiji First.

We need to stop playing by the regime's rules and start getting more creative, proactive and combatant, figuratively speaking. The regime won't allow groups like the CCF to host a debate, but that shouldn't stop the political parties from organising their own.

After 8 years ruling illegally and promising to clean up, they now:
- Give 10-20% pay rise to civil servants after 20% devaluation and 40% increase in cost of living
- Say native land is inalienable when they have taken away all safeguards in previous constitutions
- Unashamedly splashing public funds for vote buying like using navy boat for campaign trip, buying rubbish bins, sewing machines, and etc. etc. etc.
- Talking up all financial and economic indicators to try show good performance
- Still have no evidence of any real corruption except for the trumped up cases upheld by a corrupt judiciary
- Have amassed ill-begotten wealth for them and families
- Have widened and deepened mistrust between the major ethnic communities
- Sent the army to Syria in a dangerous mission without the proper preparation and resources, and have signed up alliances with countries that are in fact responsible for fuelling the Syrian regime’s massacre of the people these rebel groups are fighting for. WAKE UP FIJI ARMY THEY ARE DELIBERATELY NULLIFYING YOU.
So when it comes to elections they think we are stupid enough to vote for them. Vote for any other party or candidate BUT NOT FIJI FIRST. LETS GET RID OF THIS THIEVING, LYING, MURDEROUS, SPITEFUL, ROTTEN REGIME.

Anonymous said...

The regime claims no contact so far with Al-Nusra, but then, the regime claims lots of things and is nearly always lying.

Al-Nusra has made known several demands. Now, just HOW did it make those demands known in the absence of contact? Al-Nusra piled on new demands, like the ultimatum for Bainimarama's resignation by our election date, and the release of Al-Musri. That implies repeated contacts over time.

The regime says nothing about the ultimatum, nor is it mentioned in any of Fiji's regime-controlled press. What is the regime afraid of? Obviously, it doesn't want to add to the pressure for Bainimarama's resignation or allow people to think it might be his fault when he doesn't resign and Fijian heads begin getting chopped off.

Is Khaiyum also afraid this side of the story will become known? After all, his fortunes are tied to Bainimarama's.

Or ARE they?

Maybe instead he's itching for Bainimarama's resignation before the election, because in this short time period, he has the best opportunity to succeed as Prime Minister.

Maybe he even planned this whole thing through the Muslim Brotherhood.

A lot of unanswered questions. And Bainimarama has to wonder, because for sure Khaiyum knows more about this than he does.

Well if you read your Bible you'll all know the promise to Cain and Ishmael. They are a people of war.

Beheadings are not new to the descendants of Abraham anyway.

Its in the Bible - David beheaded Goliath and took his head a trophy and threw it at the feet of Saul.

When David wanted the hand of Saul's daughter the price was the foreskins of a couple of 500 Philistines.

If you think about it, that's a pretty gruesome business. First you have to slot them, then you pull their pants down and shop of the foreskin from the ding a ling. They you have to count them all out to make sure you haven't missed any.

Lets just be thankful the current batch of guys over there haven't gone really deep into the Bible and Koran and found that verse.

Because it could be a hell of a lot worse for the UNHCR were they to start this business of chopping balls off as well over there and around the Jihadi networks around the world.

Well the Christians are the late entrants to the whole thing because we came along after the Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem.

And then because Rome became Christian and because the bible talks about Jerusalem we decided we want to go there and reclaim the place for Christianity, when in truth that place was not the birth place of Christianity but the birth place of Jesus.

Anyway the Ottomans came along and built the Mosque on the Temple Mount

So that's that.

Now this business about UNDOF.

There is not a single Muslim country on UNDOF. All UNDOF contributing nations are Gentiles (to the Jews) and Kafir (to the Islamic Jihadis).

Think about it.

But that's by the by, of course Jesus was born in a Palestine which was governed by Antiochus who the Romans had set up to manage their interests on that side of Med. And this Antihocus fella was part of a dysnasty which was a descended from one of the Generals who had come down that way on an outing with Alexander way back in the day when the Macedonians played cricket over there so its kind of all mixed up really.

Before I bid y'all a blessed night, focus is right in that we should all remember our captured troops in our daily prayers as I did especially at mass earlier this evening since it was actually a very special occasion ("The Feast of the Nativity of our Blessed Mother Mary" - the b'day of the Blessed Mother which was celebrated well before Islam even came into existence in the 7th century).

So... a heartfelt prayer to our Lady Advocate for our forlorn troops, most probably crying a river by Babylon:

"Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina)

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us O Holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen"

May God Bless Fiji.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry to break it to you, since you're trying to write a term paper or something making the argument, but Jesus was not a Syrian.

Jesus was born in Palestine, a region that fell between Syria and Egypt. The Assyrian Empire no longer existed. Bethlehem at the time of Jesus' birth was not part of Syria or Assyria. The world's oldest city, Damascus is now the capital of Syria. Assyria has not existed in any form since the mid-seventh century A.D.

At the time of Jesus’ birth, Roman legions garrisoned Syria and Egypt but not Palestine. Rome relied on King Herod to keep the peace. When he soon died, administration of the region passed to his children, who were no longer regarded as kings, but by various titles. Emperor Augustus eventually deposed one and sent a procurator to rule in his stead, supported by a detachment of legionnaires.

Jesus was a Galilean, not a Syrian. Jesus did not speak Syriac but Aramaic.

During Jesus' public career, Galilee was governed by the tetrarch Antipas, who was sovereign within his own domain, provided that he remained loyal to Rome and maintained peace and stability within his borders.

Judaea (including Jerusalem) was nominally governed by the Roman procurator Pilate, but the actual daily rule of Jerusalem was in the hands of the high priest Caiaphas and his council.

Obviously al Nusra know their Koran and Bible history too.

That's why they are calling Syria the land of Shem, and they refer to themselves as the warriors of the land of Shem.

Shem was one of the son's of Noah

He is named in the Talmud by the name Shem.

Its is also believed that he is the one named in the bible as Melchizedek "the Righteous One" who blessed Abraham after he came back successful from war with the guys who had kidnapped Lot and Mrs Lot and Lots kids and the rest of Lots gang.

Jesus is described in the book of Hebrews as a High Priest in the Order of Melchizedek.

So really this business going on over there between al Nusra and Assad is one family squabble and their Hebrew relatives of the House of Jacob are sitting on the other side of the fence watching the spectacle of their cousins trashing the House of Shem and smashing each other.

And when one of their cousins happens to fall over the border all shot up the Hebrews take him to hospital and patch him up and then send him back home to the House of Shem to carry on with the latest domestic dispute which has been going on for the last four years.
