Fiji First candidate assaults voter at church hall meeting

Nemani Bainivalu with paralympic cousin Iliesa Delana: both have been named Fiji First candidates
One of the 21 Fiji First candidates named to contest the elections racially abused and assaulted a voter at a meeting in Wainivula a few days ago.

Nemani Bainivalu lost control during a heated debate with a man in the audience over land and is accused of saying "..o iko na luveni kailoma sega na kemu qele” or "Oh, you son of a part-European, you don't have any land," then assaulting him.

Reports coming in to C4.5 say the attack was witnessed by a number of senior Fiji First officials, including the party's president, Dr Jiko Luveni, but no action was taken to stop the assault or to condemn it.

Sources at the meeting were shocked at the behaviour of Bainivalu and Luveni's lack of leadership.

Turning away from attack: Jiko Luveni
Land is a major concern for itaukei voters, who in recent months have tried to get transparent answers from the illegal regime leading up to the election.

The debate at the Wainivula Church Hall revolved around changes to the Native Land Trust Act, the effects of the Land Use Decree 2010, and the provisions in the regime's 2013 Constitution, which allows just one person, the prime minister, to control the administration of land deposited in the Land Bank.

Participants say Nemani Bainivalu lost control after Fiji First was bombarded with questions from the floor.

The attack is unacceptable and harks to Bainimarama's dictatorial leadership and should've been reported to police.

But it is clearly an example of Fiji First feeling the heat as voters who see through the lack of transparency and inconsistencies around issues such as land and the Constitution, keep the pressure on them.

The naming of candidates, including three youths, has prompted renewed calls for Fiji First to engage opposition parties in a national debate with SODELPA youth president, Pita Waqavonovono, urging media and community leaders to let Youth Candidates have the stage.

"Youth need to hear their leaders," says Waqavonovono.

"Do they want a Government that will set the scales right, end the coup culture and make a meaningful step to Fiji democracy or do they want to buy into FijiFirst propaganda and help entrench the coup culture and suppression of rights - in short extend the dictatorship?

"The decision at the polls will affect our economy, and many of our concerns as youth rests in the hands of the media and community leaders to grant us this opportunity."

O iko e kana i rairai ni kawa ni tamata gogo gavui mai nomu vanua.

I am saying that the expansion of construction of roads and bridges and other major capital works around the country particularly Vanua levu does not correlate with economic growth. Visibility is what Khaihum is banking on but once you hurt the Kai Viti bye bye Sina. They will atke the candies and vote SODELPA or NFP.

There has not been any real growth in the economy and an average 1.7% is very minimal plus the devaluation of Fiji dollar.
To make worse we are living in an animal Farm kind of society where there are some that are more equal then others.PS are paid $220,000.00 which NOT justifiable when 40% of people live in poverty.
Voreqe and Khaihum are paid over $1.3 Million more than the PM of Australia and NZ.

What do you know about Vanua Levu?

Boci papaku...go back to and complete your class eight at your village school.

Cost of living has increased to 40% in the last 8 years.

FijiFirst raises concern over Electoral Commission’s lack of ability to address issues
Thursday, 31/07/2014

FijiFirst General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

The FijiFirst has come out today and raised serious concerns about the Electoral Commission’s lack of ability to address issues like the vandalising and stoning of FijiFirst vehicles over the past few weeks.

FijiFirst General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said some of their supporters who have the FijiFirst stickers on their vehicles have been intimidated by members of the public and some law enforcement officers.

Sayed-Khaiyum said some of the vehicles have graffiti and swear words written on the stickers.

Other things written on the cars include people told to vote for other parties.

The FijiFirst General Secretary said some Land Transport Authority and Police officers are also intimidating their supporters.
Sayed-Khaiyum revealed that some reports have been filed with the Police and LTA.
He said some of the supporters now want the stickers off their vehicles.

Sayed-Khaiyum said the Electoral Commission needs to reassure members of the public that no one should be intimidated for supporting a particular party.

The FijiFirst said the Electoral Commission should speak out against these incidents and take a proactive approach.

He also questions what the commission is doing about party posters being put up in non-designated areas.

Sayed-Khaiyum said a party poster is on a bus stop in Sigatoka which is clearly not in a designated public place.

He said the Electoral Commission is not saying anything on this.

The FijiFirst General Secretary said he has spoken to the Electoral Commission Chairman, Chen Bunn Young about this issue.

We have been trying to speak to Young about this issue.

He is yet to comment.

@Mr Bean you must be a paid Regime Moron.

Economic growth of merely 1.7% does not add up to your claims.

After 8 years Voreqe and Khaihum have build their own empire and all know that they are hiding it from every one.

A dictator is a Dictator who harassed women and ordered the killing of CRW soldiers which their blood is still crying from the ground for justice.

Qarase is correct when he said this election will only provide the people of Fiji with 2 choices.

A VOTE FOR DEMOCRACY OR A VOTE FOR DICTATORSHIP.

90% OF I TAUKEI WILL VOTE FOR SODELPA AND THE RESTORATION OF GCC AND THE RULE OF LAW.

NOW YOU CAN CURSE AND YELL AT SODELPA TOO BAD MATE SODELPA WILL CLEAN SWEEP IN THIS ELECTION.

THE ASSOCIATION of South Pacific Airline (ASPA) says the dispute between Fiji and Solomon Islands governments can only be resolved through the immediate intervention by prime ministers of both countries.

In a statement yesterday, Association’s Secretary-General, George Faktaufon said he personally believes that acceptable resolutions can only be agreed upon if prime ministers of both countries instruct their respective officials and the two national airlines to return to negotiation table.

Mr Faktaufon’s call follow continued standoff between the two Melanesian neighbours that is now in its third week and has seen all international flights between Nadi, Fiji and Honiara operated by Fiji Airways and Solomon Airlines indefinitely suspended.

Mr Faktaufon said this is the first time in the South Pacific's aviation history for airliners to resort to total withdrawal of their services between two Pacific island nations.

He said the impasse should not be allowed to continue because the travelling public has suffered enough and it’s not their fault.

"It a real sad situation," he said.

"This is a time for good leadership. Unfortunately, the Pacific way of resolving disputes seems to be out of the window."

But, responding to Fiji’s Attorney General and Aviation Minister’s call for Honiara to make the first move yesterday, Director of Civil Aviation Authority Solomon Islands (CAASI), George Satu reiterated their stand that Fiji is responsible for starting up the mess by defying the Air Service Agreement in the first place.

Mr. Satu said Fiji’s action at the first place has prompted the mess and they should make the first move, and not Honiara as claimed by Fiji in the wake of the ban.

He also describes the approach by Fiji in using the media as inappropriate.

“The statement by Fiji’s AG and aviation Minister can only show the wrong approach to solve the issue. As I mention earlier the only way this issue can be resolved is through the diplomatic level but not through media.

“And we did our part by putting forward a formal request, but they failed to respond so that is why the issue remains unresolved,” he said.

Mr Satu also questioned why Fiji has not responded to the request for talks that was forwarded on 14 July to resolve the standoff.

Minister for Civil Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum following the ban said Fiji's position remained consistent and that responsibility for the dispute rested with Solomon Islands Government.

"After the Solomons Government banned two successive Fiji Airways flights from Nadi to Honiara in breach of our Air Services Agreement, the decision was made to suspend all Solomon Airlines flights until the matter is resolved," he said in a government statement.

"We regret the inconvenience to the travelling public but this action was triggered by Solomon Islands and the responsibility lies with Honiara to make the first move."

Meanwhile, Secretary-General Faktaufon also clarified the dispute was not discussed at the recent ASPA conference in Noumea, New Caledonia, at the request of the two airlines.

"The two airlines asked not to discuss the dispute at the ASPA conference held in Noumea last week because they claimed it was a dispute between the two states, which could only be resolved at the government level, hence the reason ASPA did not discuss the issues."

He said the association, however, urged both airlines to encourage their respective governments to resolve the impasse sooner rather than later.

It is really sad to see people targetting one religion in here..

Is baini a muslim?
Is Mahen reddy a muslim?
Is Ganesh Chand a muslim?
Is bijai prasad a muslim?
Are all the PS and commissioners who r going to contest under FFP muslims?

Well Aiyaz has a muslim name and is seen to be bullying the muslims around the country but he is really a muslim. If he was a real muslim, he would not have taken the ILLEGAL position in this government.

And his muslim group..WHEN THEY MEET, THEY MEET OVER WINE AND ALCOHOL.. what is muslim in this.

It is a very sad day for muslims in fiji today.. and just as baikaiyum have wiped out GCC and the land ownership, they are wiping away the true meaning of muslim religion from fiji.

Muslims will unite and vote for their party.. FLP.. muslims have always been the kung maker and this time around, they will again do the right thing.

Let us all pray that unity prevails in fiji and we succeed in removing this dictator from fiji and they face the full brunt of the law.

Did any economist ever predict Fiji's economy would collapse under sanctions? I don't think so. The sanctions were never that stringent. Also, Fiji has a strong subsistence economy that makes it pretty unsinkable. No thanks to Bainimarama, however. This man is personally responsible for setting back our economy by many years. His needless reneging on assurances has cost us hundreds of millions of dollars in sugar assistance from the EU, support that could have helped our sugar industry recover. His coups and tyrannical rule have cost us probably billions in lost investments. And his gargantuan loans at higher-than-necessary interest rates, just to finance his political campaigning, will stifle growth for the next two generations. Far from having "eternal benefits" for the nation, the Bainimarama Captivity will be a millstone around our necks for many years and be seen by historians as the darkest period in the history of modern Fiji.

Aiyaz is a Muslim . . . or pretends to be. If you don't like the reputation he is giving Islam in Fiji—and who could blame you—then why don't you issue a fatwa against him? Aiyaz's actions are creating most of the enmity towards Muslims. The Muslim community should rid itself of this troublemaker.

Of course cars with Fiji First stickers will be stoned and vandalised. Fiji First is synonymous with treason. We don't tolerate traitors.

Anonymous said...

Typical approach by the regime. It created the row with the Solomon Islands. It ignored Honiara's attempts to handle this quietly, through diplomatic channels, choosing instead to air its side of the dispute through its controlled media. Now it's waiting for Honiara to make unilateral concessions. So much for Melanesian solidarity. Whatever happened to the Pacific Way?

Isn't this the same Sayed-Khaiyum who wouldn't let the SDL meet and made them change their name? Isn't he the one who had Chaudhry arrested just for drinking grog with 4-5 mates? Isn't he the one who imprisoned the SDL's leader over stale, half-baked charges? Isn't he the one who imposed all sorts of rules on them, which he selectively enforces against them but never against Fiji First?

ASK and Chen Bunn Young reminds me of what "Juan Delacruz" wrote a while back about how the regime will try to steal the elections Filipino-style. He wrote how the Philippines' corrupt President planted her campaign posters all over the country and raised legal challenges whenever her opponents tried to put up their own. That's exactly what's now happening in Fiji.

A'las we forget the great statesman that he was :

Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna (1888-1958)

1936 speeches to the Great Council of Chiefs:

(on the Indian presence in his country):

"Let us not ignore the fact that there is another community settled here in our midst. I refer to the Indians. They have increased more rapidly than we. They have become producers on our soil. They are continuously striving to better themselves. Although they are a different race, yet we are each a unit in the British Empire. They have shouldered many burdens that have helped Fiji onward. We have derived much money from them by way of rents. A large proportion of our prosperity is derived from their labour."

(on the perceived need for cautious political development):

"We are the High Chiefs of these islands. We are the leaders of the people. On us is the duty of pointing out to them the right course. Bear this in mind. We have to lead on two points- hold back those who advocate radical changes (for which we are not sufficiently educated) and enliven the laggards before their ignorance destroys us."

"Eda na sega ni kilai na i Taukei kevaka ena sega mada ni dave e liu na noda dra."

Although he did not live to see Fiji gain its independence (in 1970), the role he played in the pre-independence years was crucial; without him, there might not have been a Fijian state or its creation would almost certainly have been delayed. Not only was his personal role decisive, he also mentored several of the men who were to play pivotal roles in the post-independence years. His nephew, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, became a world figure as Fiji's first Prime Minister and later served as President; Ratu Sir Edward Cakobau served for many years as a Cabinet minister and his cousin, Ratu Sir George Cakobau became the country's de facto Head of State as its first native-born Governor-General; and Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau became the first President of the Republic of Fiji. All four had been personally selected by Ratu Sukuna for leadership, mentored by him, and educated abroad at his expense. Long after his death, they continued to regard him as their mentor and saw the implementation of his vision as their sacred responsibility. Even today, now that the torch has been passed to a younger generation, most Fijian politicians, even from the Indo-Fijian community, regard themselves as heirs of his legacy.

GOD BLESS FIJI

The FMF has lost its integrity when Voreqe took over the leadership of the FMF. I still remember the day when Frank as a captain of one of the naval ship on his way to an island claimed by Fiji closer to Kadavu carrying the former President and his entourage when suddenly the weather was not too friendly.

His decision was for all to abandon the ship and this was questioned by a senior civil servant.

If his decision was not questioned and challenged he would have been a very sad day for Fiji because he was responsible for the death of NOT only all the passengers but most importantly the President,a High Chief and the Chief Executive of of the Military.

Still to date it is the same Frank facing the same dilemma in leadership.

Is he a suitable leader?

Koronivia Duck farmer Rahul Sundar, 36, says his business is improving in terms of the revenue he has received from sales.
Mr Sundar’s duck farm shed was funded by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development’s Self-Help Project at a cost of $10,400.
He now has 400 ducks and has already sold about 40 ducks at the Nausori Market with male ducks costing $40 and female ducks for $20.
“I had applied for assistance in 2013 and it was approved in January this year; two-third was provided by Government and I contributed one-third for the shed.
“My duck shed has helped me to increase the productivity and earn more revenue,” he said.
Principal agriculture officer Rewa Josefa Suka said: “He will continue to provide us with a 12-month report regarding the outcome and the achievements of the farm.”

Headman of Vacoko Settlement in Naboro Filimoni Kaitavu said the income received from the sale dalo was favorable.
This dalo project was initiated by the Government to rehabilitate ex-prisoners and unemployed youths in the settlement. The total budget for this project was $13,269.92.
He said there would be a lot of positive impacts on the people. The Ministry of Agriculture provided 40,000 dalo suckers to the community and this has helped to drive the residents to utilise the resources they have.
“We have received $11,520 from sales. The harvest started in May this year and is expected to continue until the end of August.
“This 550-acre piece of land and is a Crown Lease. The land was given to us by the Government,”Mr Kaitavu said.
The total expected production is 32 metric tonnes which would fetch an income of $23,040.
Senior agriculture officer Bidhyakar Pande said the dalo was marketed at the municipal market and also at Vacoko roadside.
“The area under cultivation is eight acres and the standing crop includes 20,000 Uronivonu and 20,000 Maleka Dina. Other root crops and vegetables besides dalo are also planted,” Mr Pande said.
“This will help to improve the living standard of the community especially the people.”
The community has 24 households and a total population of 118.

Remember remember the 6th of December,
Enemy number one, executed his agenda
Raped democracy on dubious assumptions
One of which was to rid us of corruption

Remember remember the regime is illegal
Trying to paint a flowery signal
They robbed, raped, killed and murdered
They even stole, sacked never accounted

Remember remember they initially kept the constitution
But later changed to suit their egoistic vision
To protect their interest first than that of the nation
They even wrote their own new version

Remember remember do not even trust this regime
Which is trying to save it's very own skin
It is their own self first rather than FijiFirst
We have had enough of being coerced

ASSESSORS in the trial of businessman Keni Dakuidreketi gave a unanimous not guilty opinion for the five counts of abuse of office for the purpose of gain.

However, for the five counts of abuse of office, they found him guilty.

High Court judge Justice Janaka Bandara took the entire day yesterday to sum up the case to assessors because a large amount of evidence was presented during the month and a half-long trial.

Assessors took over an hour to return with their opinions.

Mr Dakuidreketi was alleged to have used extinct mataqali funds and government grants to finance businessman Ballu Khan's IT company Pacific Connex through Vanua Development Corporation Limited (VDCL), a limited liability company of the then-Native Land Trust Board.

VDCL is the investment arm of NLTB.

Justice Bandara thanked the assessors for their service to the court as judges of facts.

Justice Bandara will deliver his judgment next Tuesday.

He gave notice for co-accused Kalivati Bakani to attend court on the same day.

Where is Ro Kepa? Very quiet. Has Qarase has done the coup and taken over her. SOPELA party is divided and deeply split. Qarase has become the pseudo leader. Bring back Rabuka. On the other hand Madiba is treated like God. Now Vuci villagers have fallen to him. They have asked for their forgiveness. Meanwhile the party of old racists have has disintegrated.

@ Pau Ratulailai, the images you are posting on the Fiji Sun is scaring the other parties, especially PM address to its supporters in the Fiji First Family day.The huge crowd numbering in the millions shows that the opinion poll might be off target a bit,my calculation is that 95 % of the voting public support FFirst and 90% support PM as the preferred Leader.THE PEOPLE WHO CONVERGE ON PARLIAMENT DURING 2000 HAVE MADE THEIR SORO OR MATANIGASAU TO PM.MOST OF THESE PEOPLE WERE SDL OR SODLEPA SAPOTAS BUT HAVE CHANGED. I SUGGEST THAT RO TEIMUMU ALSO PRESENT A VULO OF TABUA TO PM,AFTER F.FIRST HAS WON THE SEPT ELECTIONS AS HER AND SODLEPA SUPPORTERS SORO OR MATANIGASAU,THEN ITS OFF TO A FRESH START,A UNITED FIJI IS UNBEATABLE. SE VAEVEI???

Permanent Secretary Francis Kean credits the Bainimarama government for his rehabilitation and early release from prison. Mr. Kean, who is also Rear Admiral Bainimarama's brother-in-law, was the commander of the Fiji Navy when he was convicted of manslaugher in 2007 for beating to death a guest at a family wedding.

Mr. Kean noted that he was the first, and so far only, notable beneficiary of the government's Yellow Ribbon Campaign designed to identify worthy inmates for early release and give them a second chance at becoming contributing members of society. Rear Admiral Bainimamara says a lot of inmates need a second chance to succeed in life.

During his incarceration, Mr. Kean continued to receive full pay, which was approved by then-Interim Prime Minister and RFMF Commander Bainimarama. After his release, PM Bainimarama approved the re-appointment of Francis Kean as navy commander and justified the move by saying he was the best person for the job. He rejected any suggestion the choice was made because of family links. In 2011, Francis Kean was appointed permanent secretary of works. PM Bainimarama says he had nothing to do with the decision to appoint Mr. Kean as a public servant in his government.

Mr. Kean attributed his remarkable rehabilitation to the efforts of Rear Admiral Bainimarama. "No previous government would have given me a second chance. They would have treated me like a common criminal. Only through the help of the Bainimarama government am I able to take such good care of my family and to continue to contribute to the nation of Fiji. That's why I'll be voting Fiji First."

Social media is playing a huge part in this election . Yes I agree that and know that Sodelpa has internal rumblings . People in fiji are saying , how can they run a country when they can't run an effective party that respects the leader . The leader leaves a lot to be desired . She along with qarase , command no respect . Please note that Indians do support Sodelpa but they don't want qarase , who was a well known racist . Sad but true ,Sodelpa needs an intelligent , fair and effective leader that people of all races respect . That's the formula to win !!!

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum explained why he joined the Interim Cabinet after 2006 and why he accepted the position of General Secretary in the Fiji First Party. "I quite believe in this government and its multiracial vision, because I quite believe in the Prime Minister. I was the General Manager Legal and Compliance and the Company Secretary in the Colonial Group of Companies for five years before I was elevated to Prime Minister Bainimarama's cabinet." He added: " Only Prime Minister Bainimarama recognised my genius for organisation and leadership. Were it not for him, I'm quite sure my talents would have been wasted. But just look at me now. Minister for Justice, Anti-Corruption, Elections, Public Enterprises, Industry, Trade, Investment, Tourism and Communications. Only in Fiji!"

Asked about allegations that he was receiving separate government salaries for each of his many portfolios, the Attorney-General shrugged and said: "Nobody can prove that. In fact, I took a pay cut to accept the position of Attorney-General. I earn my salary. I challenge you to find a harder working public servant."

The Attorney-General described what he saw as his achievements. "I'm quite proud of what I was able to help us accomplish, even without being elected. I oversaw Fiji's wide acceptance of the People's Charter for Change, Peace and Progress without need for a referendum. When President Iloilo decided to abrogate the Constitution, I happened to be ready with all of the implementing decrees, including the Public Emergency Regulations and the Media Decree. If you compare the 2013 Constitution with the version drafted by my former professor, Yash Ghai, I think you'll find that the student surpasses the teacher. This Constitution is broadly accepted. And it completely protects indigenous land rights. I wrote it, so I should know. Anyone who says it doesn't is simply being obtuse."

Attorney-General Sayed-Khaiyum said he is very much looking forward to an election victory by the Fiji First Party. "I predict a Fiji First landslide. I really do. Maybe I shouldn't say that as Minister for Elections, but Ratu Mara and Rabuka also oversaw their elections. I think it will be historic."

Attorney-General Sayed-Khaiyum dismissed perceptions that fellow Muslims were obtaining government favouritism because of his personal influence. "We hire only the best and the brightest. The days of hiring only iTaukei Methodist males is over. If they happen to be Muslim, then so be it. We no longer hire just because someone is a certain race or religion. We hire on the basis of merit. Fiji is now for all Fijians, including the iTaukei." Attorney-General Sayed-Khaiyum is married to an iTaukei, Ela Gavoka.

Attorney-General Sayed-Khaiyum looked wistful. "You know, these eight years have flown by quickly." Then his countenance suddenly brightened. He enthused: "We've now started the revolution. We need to see it through to completion. Just look at how far we've already traveled. Think of how much more we can do once we're elected!"

Looks like Khaiyum thinks he is larger than the party. He even thinks he is larger than the whole of Fiji. This is why FFP has already reached its zenith and is on its spiralling downward path.

FFP's candidates who have just resigned from their civil service posts have been those who have caused the downturn in the economy for the past almost eight years.

If Bainimarama continues to govern in the next few years, development will be slow and the the rate of poverty will still increase.

Notice that Khaiyum doesn't deny he receives multiple salaries. He just says that no one can prove it.

Yes, only in Fiji can a nobody like ASK rise to control so many cabinet positions by licking the arse of a traitor.
