One for the grog bowl
No Constitution, no political party or the required 5,000 members, no details either about assets and liabilities. In fact, no legal mandate whatsoever .... just a whole lot of naked ambition and posturing.
/m/ is right, it's not what's contained in the 1997 Constitution because as we all know, the 1997 Constitution is a living document, it is not set in stone but at the same time, it's shouldn't be made easy to change the provisions of the Constitution willy nilly, whenever the mood suits our leadership. It requires above all else, great wisdom, understanding/patience and goodwill on the part of our political leadership (i.e. Parliament representatives) to make the changes as and when they are required - because societal norms are not static. All societies EVOLVE with time and over time (or we'll still be in grass-skirt and nothing else, lol!)
The regime's real issue with the 1997 Constitution if it is resurrected, is the dire implications for them individually and personally (treason, etc) - nothing else. Or can someone try to convince me otherwise?
One wonders about the profit made by our national carrier with its millions of dollars in profit for the last year. We all know that it owes FNPF millions of dollars in debt for the purchase of the three new planes. Funny how the airline board members described that the profit was not in their plan, and that it was a surprise as mentioned in the tv news. Come on FA, what is happenning, someone is not telling the truth, the arithmetic does not add. Truth is a rare commodity in Fiji these days, it has been avoiding us since December 2006.
THE Fiji Women's Crisis Centre (FWCC) has labelled the grog ban imposed on some women in Cakaudrove as discriminatory.
Some villages in the district of Vaturova continue to uphold the village bylaw of banning women from drinking grog in the village.
FWCC director Shamima Ali said this was totally a violation of women's rights.
"This ban is unfair to women because they also have their rights," said Ms Ali
"If a village law is being imposed, it should be meant for both men and women and not only one party.
"From our rural trips, we have gathered that women in most villages are still being tasked to carry out majority of the house chores and also men's jobs.
"Men, on the other hand, just drink grog at night and sleep in the day time.
"Practising this law only encourages men to feel macho about themselves and torment their wives with housework.
"For instance, if a man goes out to drink grog and if he returns and finds out that his food is not ready, he will be annoyed and in some cases, beat their wives or violently treat her."
Ms Ali said it was only appropriate for women to practise their rights freely.
President of the Soqosoqo Vakamarama Cakaudrove Adi Mitimiti Lewenilovo said the ban was unjust.
"Women should not be deprived of such activities because some of them drink grog to socialise and mingle with others," she said.
"Most women treat it as a form of leisure activity and I know that most of them are carrying out their work at home accordingly.
"It doesn't have any effect on their house chores.
"If the men are drinking grog, I don't see any reason why women shouldn't.

Yes Rabuka lost touch with the people and didn't listen to the 14 provincial councils which had rejected the 1997 constitution. That is a fact. No matter how much you say that it was the most widely consulted contitution the provincial councils rejected it outright. Only Lau if I can remember voted for it. The writing of the constitution was widely consulted however most of the approved provisions in the Reeves Report was removed by the parliament select committee. Pick up the Reeves Report and you will see what was changed by the politicians for their own betterment rather than for Fiji. Oh guess what the Bainimarama Governement is actually putting in most of the things that was in the Reeves Report that was not included by that parliament select committee.

I am just being curios about the chinese people going after locals..just recently 2 chinese man stopped a taxi where a mother and her 10 month old baby was going for their clinic..sources say that the chinese are after our organs ie lungs ($20K) etc..media cannot report it since the chinese government are providing fiji with big money and bad publicity will result in the termination of these funds.
Even Lord Jesus who is sinless couldn't judge a prostitute...then who gave the right for us sinful people to make judgements..if you a a TRUE Fijian,then respect should be in your blood irrespective of any odd circumstances encountered...we should learn to respect one another n be spritually wise...sa rauta na muri i tovo..let God alone judge for heaven and earth is his alone!!!!
