| Sudden death: Julie Alexander |
Julie Alexander was found at her Pacific Harbour home on Saturday. Authorities have classified her death as an 'attempted suicide.' It's been suggested paraquat was found in her system.
Alexander, who founded the International Rugby Academy of Fiji, posted on her Facebook on Friday night at 11.16pm this message: "Am off to bed now, see you tomorrow, if I am not murdered in my sleep! IRAFJ so many threatened - can't for the life of me think why - I wouldn't want to be working as hard as me! xx"
Correspondence shows she had been in dispute with Fiji Rugby Union chairman, Francis Kean, over a claim she had no licence and no permission to run an academy.
In a letter she published on the Facebook page of the academy (see below), she claimed he was bullying her.
Reports say Julie Alexander was taken to Navua hospital on Saturday night, then transferred to CWM where she died yesterday.
Alexander's Facebook friends have meanwhile been busy posting about her sudden death.
Her family have urged people not to speculate.
Meanwhile there has been no comment from either Kean or the Fiji Rugby Union.

Kean was charged with murder in 2007 after he kicked and beat to death a relative at a wedding reception at the Royal Suva Yacht Club, just three weeks after his brother in law Frank Bainimarama overthrew the democratically-elected government of Laisenia Qarase.
Kean is brother to Mary, Frank’s wife, and was naval commander at the time. He was initially charged with murder before pleading guilty to the lower charge.
He was convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in jail but was released after serving a week of serving his sentence.

According to information posted by Julie Alexander, the International Rugby Academy of Fiji is a non-profit organisation and had sought advice from former All Black palyer Frank Bunce 'who had agreed to join us on a voluntary basis.'
She also listed sportsman Iliesa Delana as an Academy member.

Since 2006, the military under Frank's command has resulted in the brutal deaths and beatings of countless citizens of Fiji. These are Fijian soldiers attacking killing and beating Fijians. I have heard in many cases, it was their relatives in the army told to beat the person taken to the camp and I have heard the idea behind that is to instill that ideal within the soldiers that they owe their allegiance to the military and not to the families or their village or province or tikina.
I asked a number of relatives of mine who are in the army how they could be brutal against their own people and he looked very sad and he looked down and told me that this I his livelihood and he does not want to lose his job because he has a family to support. This is the 30 pieces of silver our lunatic friend refers too.
Another soldier told me that many in the army don't want to do these things against the people but they cant do anything and lose face with their collegues and an order is an order when it comes from the top.
I don't think any human being with any decency will feel any good about attacking and killing defenceless people.

Training conducted by the iTaukei Ministry in various villages around the country has revealed inappropriate intimate relationships between close family members in iTaukei communities.
This was made known to villagers of Sinuvaca, Koro where the ministry conducted its first leadership and management training for the vanua in the Lomaiviti Group.
Senior iTaukei officer Niumaia Gucake said this was an unacceptable behaviour which had happened because of the loss of iTaukei values, in particular respect for each other.
Mr Gucake revealed first cousins had sexual relationships and there were fathers and grandfathers who took advantage of their children even to the extent of impregnating them.
He told villagers in Sinuvaca there needed to be changes and iTaukei values and beliefs needed to be reinforced in order to avoid this from happening.
"Due to the loss of values, iTaukei are now crowding the prisons, there are unwanted pregnancies and iTauike are becoming poor in their own land," Mr Gucake said.

Once a Fijian feels safe, then what is happening in Uganda and other countries that you speak off may happen. One cannot impose themselves upon another just as I cannot come into your house and tell you how you should live your life.
It all boils down to respect. The unfortunate thing about Fiji is that its PM has no respect for anyone whatsoever. Only when Fijians feel stable, secure etc etc... Indians can and will embrace others. We need to help each other achieve this but it wont be achieved if we continue to have devisive leaders like Frank and to some extent like Naiqama and Ro Temumu. We should be careful not to mix up human psychology with culture. These sort ot things have been observed around the world. When manipulators manage to convince some violent people to do misdeeds, many of the less violent/nice people would be afraid to stand out. A country collapses when those who have wisdom and not afraid.

@ 12:55pm... Agree totalling. I have met Africans (Kenya, Ugandan) of Indian ethnic origin and they do not associate themselves with Indian whatsoever. They speak the language of their adopted country and they are part of its cultures and traditions, though they also maintain their own. They are very proud Kenyans or Ugandan's and when asked if they are Indian, express they have nothing to do whatsoever with Indian and therefore do not see themselves as such.
Many Indians refuse to speak in Fijian and have a token appreciation of the Fijian culture and traditions. Those that grow up near and around Fijian villagers assimilate better but more then 85% of Indians wont bother to speak Fijian.
If you go to Ba to places such as Bangladesh etc... Indians there will not speak English nor Fijian. They refuse to assimilate nor integrate. It is their choice but hey, they can move back to Indian. They may be better off there then here in Fiji.

Anon 12.55. I am all for integrating Fijian values. Please tell us what they are specifically. I am of Indian extraction however i Speak the i-taukei Baun dialect fluently albeit an occasional hiccup once in while due to lack pf practice. Aside from this i make a concerted effort to make sure that my family and i mix well without prejudice and respect all i-taukei friends and neighbors we have. The point i am trying to make is what exactly do you want us to do.
I agree that speaking the language is important and i am of the view that all Fiji schools should do away with Hindi altogether and URDU as the Hindi taught is not of our Fiji Hindi and URDU is of no relevance to Fiji period. This is a country who's indigenous people are i-taukei and our national language should be English and Fijian. Anything else we learn is done at your own time and at once own interest. Language is one tool that will certainly go a long way to solving differences. My observation is at least 10% of us from both races are trying to integrate, the problem is we need greater numbers of sane peace loving people to do this than it will make a difference. I will also add here that the world is moving at a rapid pace. The lines between countries, and races are blurring by the advent of technology everyday. The planet has far greater problems than our petty kaidia kaviti differences. We must as a people realize that we are part of a global village of humans inhabiting earth and all our common problems in fact our survival is far more important than our stupid prejudices. Update: 2:19PM THE Fiji Police Force has warned people not to assist suspects in evading police.
The warning follows a recent rape case for which a 31-year-old suspect was on the run and being allegedly assisted by a number of people.
Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, Assistant Commissioner of Police Henry Brown said information gathered revealed that the suspect was assisted by certain members of the community.
"As we have reiterated on numerous occasions, tackling sexual offences against women and children is going to need the support of the community," he said.
"However, considering the severity of the case and several pleas for assistance there were certain members of the community who were intent on helping the suspect evade police."
ACP Brown said as a result, investigation would focus on both, the alleged rape as well as those who had been assisting the suspect.
The suspect, who was arrested at Naroro settlement in Nadroga on Saturday afternoon, remains in custody at the Lautoka Police Station.

Update: 2:10PM A MAN was jailed for 12 years by the High Court in Suva today for raping his 13-year-old niece and making her pregnant.
While sentencing the 49-year-old man, Justice Vinsent Perera said the man had breached the trust the victim had on him as an uncle and a guardian.
The man committed the offence in 2012 and he has to serve eight years behind bars before he will be eligible for parole.

It is always very difficult to adopt a new culture when one has been ingrained from years of programming. It is no different to a Fijian moving to say Australia or NZ or USA or Canada and adopting towards the new life style.
As much as their laws permit us to adopt our own values and cultures and religions, the tolerance test is that we respect and value and do not attempt to change their values or way of living.
I think that is the key word here and Fijians feel threatened about their very existence like any person of any country would, if there were foreign people within their country having a major influence and impact and if there is any indication that they are trying to influence their ways upon the existing people, there will always be a clash. We can see this very thing happening today.
I don't believe that Fijians feel that Indians have respected Fijians enough. The values such as material, religion etc are an part of the excuse used by Fijians to affirm their position against Indians. Having said that, it is the same with part Europeans many of whom have Fijian in them but refuse to speak Fijian or have never made any serious attempt to learn the language yet want to be called Fijians. They also approach Fijian culture and values as though it is insignificant and many seat on chairs.
Look at the picture that C4.5 used of Khaiyum standing up in a community hall in a village talking to the Fijian people with everyone sitting down and Fijians attacked this as an act of viavialevu or disregard of the Fijian protocol and respect towards each other.
The unfortunate things is that everything Frank appears to be doing for the Fijian people today, seems to go against the very grain of the Fijian system because he has attacked its core and existence and questioned its values and worth. The more unfortunate things is that Frank has very little understanding that when one talks about cultures and customs and traditions, it goes beyond worth. It is a way of life and it signifies certain protocols that people adapt to develop integrity, moral values etc etc. When this social fabric breaks down, there tends to be chaos and frustration, which is exactly what is happening today.
Just as Indians need to understand Fijians, it works vice versa so there is mutual respect. Education is a bridging factor however, it also invokes changes some good and some bad but the basic principles of ones values is the key and important factor to be attained.
It is really unfortunate that Fiji is today a country where people live with suspicion and fear.
Try talking politics and questioning what Frank has done or not done and people will shut you down and say... please don't say anything because we don't trust anyone...
The fear tactic that the military has invoked against the people of Fiji has worked and today, people don't trust each other, even families are pitted against families because of this.
Many soldiers and I am sure we all have a family member in the military, realise this is something that has also creeped into the military and even these soldiers fear speaking out.
The question raised here asking Soldiers why, they have beaten killed fellow Fijians is a valid question and I am not surprised that no one has the courage to come forward and provide an answer.
What the soldiers of Fiji should understand and realise is that WE ARE NOT THE ENEMY.

Whilst many will not condone the behaviour of the 'authorities' we must not forget where these soldiers, police e.t.c have come from.
Fijian society has bred a culture where living with violence, intimidation and abuse is very much the way of life for many. You only have to read the media each day to realise what I'm saying.
Just because someone becomes employed within one of the 'authorities' does not mean they are automatically going to change their mindset. We would hope that in these 'authorities' there was control by the upper levels but there is no guarantee that can be achieved, ever.

None of these soldiers have had the guts to come forward and respond to my question which is a very simple one.

In some communities where Bainimarama's relative are bullying the people, we can see first hand the true nature of this regime.

As for that mysterious death in Pacific Harbour, I would investigate all those related to Kean living in the extended area of PH.

"WITH the potential of generating millions in revenue, the Forestry Department is embarking on a sandalwood planting program within 24 villages in the North next year.

Not sure why you are making a comparison of General Society to that of the Military because the General Society is bound by the very laws created to bring justice but with the Military, they have powers beyond that of the General Society and a clear abuse of power results in abhorrent acts against General Society.
General Society commits crimes and the police must make every effort to apprehend and being these perpetrators to justice and it is up to the police and prosecutor to present their cases in the courts of law however, if there is constant interference from the military then they are perverting the course of justice. The other problem with the Military is that their attitude because they have been given the green light, is to act as judge and jury and this probably explains the brutal assault and murders of Fijian Citizens.
I don't think one can clearly explain away the military actions because they are an organisation that is a part of the Government tasked to perform a certain task whereas the General Society is different. The level of responsibility is different and the soldiers must realise this, that they have a responsibility towards the preservation of the life of Fiji Citizens and not to brutalise and take their lives.

All very hypothetical, but we all know special powers are abused in all fields.
So the army acts as judge and jury, but the police do as well. We assume the clergy has special powers and responsibilities also but we know some also abuse these.

THE Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority Lautoka staff members bid outgoing CEO Jitoko Tikolevu farewell last Tuesday.
The farewell coincided with the Lautoka office's annual get-together lunch for the staff.
The senior officers joined Mr Tikolevu, who has served as CEO since 2007, in cutting the cake. Mr Tikolevu is Fiji's new high commissioner to London. He was accorded a traditional farewell ceremony, followed by presentation of gifts, feasting and a kava session.
Interesting how you get rewarded when you do the bidding of your corrupt masters.

If you were living in Fiji between 2006 and 2015, what you would have known is that following the coup in 2006, the Military took on the role of enforcing the law with the police being there to follow it through.
So, if you heard someone curse the military or Frank... or someone threw a stone on the roof of your house... or you did not like someone and you wanted to get back at them... all you had to do was call the military... don't call the police because the police was not brutal enough... call the military.
Throughout Fiji where there is a military camp, if you add up the numbers you will come to the thousands of people, who were taken to the camps and subjected to abusive talk down... they may be made to lift logs or sit in the hot sun for hours upon end or made to run around the camp grounds until they dropped or had their hands tied up and bashed kicked and beaten...
The military like I said, took on the role of policing and committed all these atrocities. They wanted to make themselves look good by dealing with anything that resembled criminal activity but the act was to drive fear into the hearts of the citizens and it worked.
Thousands were taken to the camp or up to the hills where they were tortured and mercilessly beaten. The ones that died, or were hospitalised and you like the dumb dodo bird you are to accept whatever the military tells you, only believe there was only a handful.
How the hell can anyone produce evidence of being taken to the military camp or up to the hills or the bushes where one is sexually assaulted or beaten close to death or made to perform workouts that one is not trained to perform. Perhaps we should ask the military for their records... do they keep records of these actions...
Roko Ului the ghandu who fled Fiji has only hit the tip of the ice berg when he revealed some of the ones he was involved in. People hate this guy because he was one of the enforcers as well. Now he has fled and come out with some of those things that happened but he is not telling everything and nor will the other ghandu Driti. Why, because their code and allegiance still remains with this very organisation the military.

Today that violence continues and it will not stop here. We have had so many murders in Fiji and violent crimes. Drugs is an epidemic and there is hard drugs being solicitored in Fiji today.
As much as what Frank and the Military are doing to maybe atone themselves, they cant because what they did was wrong and their mind set will never change.
They don't realise the monster within themselves because they showed no mercy when they brutalised and killed many Fijians. The sad thing is that it is evident they were given the green light by Frank Bainimarama who vowed to protect any of his men performing their duties for the good of his command.
The whole thing is all about Frank and today it continues to be about Frank and I just hope and pray that the Fijian people do not and I repeat, do not lose it because unfortunately things were be really bad and someone here said Indians will take the brunt of it and he is true. Unfortunately Fijians today well not all of them but at least 85% will rebel if someone starts things up.

1) The doctors know that this is NOT A NATURAL DEATH.

2) Secondly the doctors know that some sort of POISON has been used.

3)The Doctors thought the POISON was paraquat.
However we know from all scientific literature available that PARAQUAT DOES NOT KILL YOU IN 24-48 HRS. It takes at least 7 days.
Therefore it is important for the Police to CONDUCT TOXICOLOGY testing on her blood and other organs inorder to establish what Poison was used.
And as we have said before ONCE WE KNOW WHAT THE POISON WAS.....THEN WE CAN TRACE ITS SOURCE.
Basically the ball is in the Police's Court and they should play if they have any credibility.

Recently there was a typhoid outbreak in Suva which the Medical personnel determined that it was so bad it
raised very serious concern. The personnel wanted the public to be made aware to take necessary precautions.
Unfortunately the Minister of Health decided to gag the message getting out for fear it could hurt the Tourism industry.
I wonder how many more people have to get really sick or die when precautions could have been in place.

I don't know a lot of people who would commit suicide with paraquat... people would rather use medication. What were the drugs found in her house, if any? When did her neighbours talked to her the last time? did they notice anything unusual in her behavior?

Failing to do so will have very negative impact on Fiji.

Just saw footage of a Fiji Police meeting of senior officers chaired by the Acting Commissioner to unveil their strategic plan. footage showed all officers going hand a praying a christian prayer. This is in total breach of the Fiji Constitution which is quite clear on the matter.
Prominent SDL party supporters, ex parliamentarians and ex Ministers are the instigators for destabilisation in Fiji. They write anti government, anti military, anti Indian blogs from there. These Nationalist supporters are mainly on dole, live in multiracial countries and yet are racists against the Indians.
Drug use in Fiji should not be a surprise...it can kill even nominal users. The United Nation owes the Republic of Fiji Military Forces a total of 26 million dollars.
This was revealed in Parliament yesterday during the debate on the allocations of the 2016 national budget.
Opposition Member Tupou Draunidalo says the government should not be spending millions on peace keeping.
In response, Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says over the last five years Fiji has received in excess of 50 million dollars from the United Nations.
“We are owed somewhere in the vicinity of 26 million dollars that is outstanding to us. As to when we will be getting it we are not sure at this stage – it will be worked out between the Permanent rep to the UN, Foreign Affairs and RFMF here.”
Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka also rose to contribute to the debate saying that the UN needs to be forthcoming with payment.

Special new year celebrations for our local police constables for their 7 years back pay(2009-2015).They deserved it anyway, as well as the civil servants. Khaiyum had approved a $3m payout budget for Jan 2016. With this Qiliho had received all acolades and praises thus cemented his support in the constabulary dept. What about the rest-the civil servants ? I've noted that military and now police are rewarded with backpay every year. I'm not surprised if this is an act of winning support and numbers from lower ranks ,...its obvious that Qiliho lacks support from the senior police ranks. Isn't this a strategy employed by Frank prior to 2006 when his most senior officers not only rejected his orders to carry out the coup but also schooled him of its backlash on military, country and people? As a result he fired them and turned to the junior ranks by buying their support through backpay and promotion ( warrant officer drummer boy leweni is an eg promoted to major not knowing how to use a gun). A neighbour had full praises in the neighborhood for his backpay approved by Frank in 2005. He was a private in the military then. From annual wages of $6000 to $12000 increase with arrears that year is enough to sell his soul and life to Frank. Now isn't the two similar?

IT will be a season of celebration for police officers after Government approved the payout of allowances associated with the job evaluation exercise and outstanding pay for Special Constables.
Confirming this yesterday, Acting Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said the approval came from Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Brig-Gen Qiliho said the money would be forked out from the police budget. According to police records, $800,000 will be paid out to police officers in allowance and a team from the headquarters will verify the names of those who are eligible.
He said the outstanding pay of $3million for special constables since 2009 was also approved and would be paid next year when the new budget book opens.
"Two important issues, in regards to the outstanding issues for the allowances associated with the job evaluation exercises, the Minister for Finance has approved that will be paid out from the budget this year," Brig-Gen Qiliho said.
"For the special constables, outstanding pay from 2009 up until now amounts to about $3 to $4m. He's (Mr Sayed-Khaiyum) also approved that to be paid first thing next year and they will supplement budget from the Head 50.
"That's the good news you can tell the special police constables. We could not get it out before Christmas but it can be put to better use to prepare for their children's education next year."
The payout for special constables will only be for those who missed out and were underpaid in the April payout this year.
Former police officer Tevita Ralulu said the issue had been long overdue and former police officers and families of those who had passed on had been waiting for outstanding payments.
"We do hope it will be given before Christmas so they get to enjoy the pay with their families," Mr Ralulu said.
"We would like to thank the Government and the Fiji Police Force for listening to our plea all this while."
In reaction to the payout announcement, Western Divisional Police Commander Marika Yalimaiwai said the issue of the payout would have an effect on operations on the ground.
"This is an issue that affects operations on the ground in some way or another. It is a good way to kick off operations in 2016," he said.
"The good news that they are getting their extra hours paid out is a big boost for us as this means they will be paid what they deserve. We thank the commissioner and Government for taking this initiative."
Mr Yalimaiwai said the process of verification was already in progress.
Southern Divisional Police Commander Biu Matavou said the payout meant officers would be rewarded for the long hours of accumulated work.
"This is good for special constables. This will boost morale and boost their work.
"It's good that they will be paid for accumulated long hours of work," Mr Matavou said.

Methane Leaks from Oil and Gas Wells Now Top Polluters
The oil and gas industry surges past cows as top U.S. methane emitter
greenhouse gas inventory released yesterday.
The inventory shows that natural gas systems (which include thousands of wells, processing facilities, transmission and distribution lines) contributed 157.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) of methane in 2013. That is 2 percent higher than the previous year.
Petroleum systems (which include onshore and offshore crude oil production, transportation, and refining) contributed 25 million metric tons CO2e of methane. That is 8 percent higher than the previous year

Nawailevu villagers in Bua have today realised how they were duped and conned by Frank to offer their land to the Chinese to mine for bauxite.
They have been stupid enough to offer their land to the Land Bank Commission and today realise that they are gaining nothing from giving up their land for bauxite mining.
Today, the military is also involved standing guard over the Chinese machinery and equipment. Shutting down any dissident group that wants to speak out against the mining.

A BUA chief has banned all non-governmental organisations and community groups from entering Wainunu without permission from the provincial office.
Tui Wainunu Ratu Orisi Baleitavea made the decision to prevent possibilities of misinformation dished to his people through civil societies.
He made the comment following the survey carried out by the Bua Urban Youth Network which revealed that most villagers in Wainunu didn't want bauxite.
"We are all working here for the sake of alleviating poverty in Wainunu and our initiatives of not only having a bauxite mine but improving roads and increasing farm produce are all part of it," Ratu Orisi said.
"And the last thing we want is to have some NGOs come in and mislead our villagers with some information without looking at the bigger picture.
"That is why we will reinforce our decision and anyone who wants to come to do work with our people in Wainunu will now have to go through the provincial office."
